The usual gang of suspects met up again today for the 2nd Jakarta forumers pond visit. Host this time was Rendy, who has a roughly 30T pond (including filter) filled with mainly tosai gosankes. I arrived a bit late (had to appease the wife first by bringing her to her favorite dimsum rest for lunch) to find Rendy, Hasan (luckyl), Andrew, Maris, and Paul all drooling over Rendy's magoi hybrid which measured 47cm (purchased at 26cm in August). This fish was bought directly from Yoshida fish farm (owned by ex-Shinkoukai VP) in Japan. Rendy kindly allowed us to bowl his fish one by one, but those guys were fast to zip around the pond, so we didn't get a chance to check each fish out. We did find some impressive progress of koi in this new pond (barely 4 months old, right Ren?). a soragoi had grown from around 30cm to 50cm, a few Sakai kohakus from 21cm to 35cm+, and some momotaros from 25cm+ up to 39-43cm. An Izumiya ogon Rendy bought from me had also developed amazing girth. Though a new hobbyist, it was clear the man is on the right track. It started drizzling during our bowling koi exercise, thus we retreated indoors to Rendy's lovely home. Inevitably the visitors started to comment about Rendy's vast back garden, mumbling among each other about how Rendy should have built a big pond there (easily 100T attainable) and pointing to one spot after another where we felt would be a good location for his 2nd pond. When ultimately the guys started telling him he should convert his beautiful swimming pool to a koi pond, our host very quickly changed the subject of conversation. obviously there's only so much harrassing one can take from koi crazy people who pay no interest for the need to exercise/keep fit nor the aesthetics of an already beautiful home. During the rain delay, we were entertained by luckyl's son Andrew who had the uncanny ability to do a funny impression of his Dad. At first We didn't understand what the young fella was doing, sitting on the couch next to luckyl and making weird facial expressions and strange exaggerated hand gestures. That was until we noticed his old man next to him starting to do the exact same thing, except in his case it came naturally. HAHAHA. Noticing that the 2 luckiest dogs in the world (aka Rendy's labradors) were nowhere to be seen, i inquired to Rendy who disclosed that they were still being grounded for having made an expensive meal out of their master's S$xxxx ranchus a couple of weeks ago. Poor Rama and Leksi (their names), not allowed to roam around the 1500m2 house and banned from enjoying their afternoon swim in the pool. Instead, they had to stay in their roomy doghouse (which, by the way, is airconditioned i kid you not). Hope they've learned their lesson. Rendy, actually to REALLY punish them you should consider switching off their a/c, you know. That'd teach them! After the pond visit, we decided not to go to the Japanese koi dealer near Rendy's home, as his attitude during Rendy's last visit had rubbed us (well, Rendy and me) the wrong way. So it was off to lunch where Maris, Rendy, and I found out to our horror that they didn't allow smoking. A fully non-smoking restaurant here in Jakarta! What will they think of next? Make us put downpayment before ordering our meals? Hmph! Food was very good, fully paid for by our host, so one can't complain. er On second though, one CAN complain. what the hell. Non smoking indeed! Oke back to koi. Next pond visit the guys nominated me as host. I guess it's only fair but it'd have to wait till i come back from a short trip next week (to visit Singapore koi dealers with Rendy and Maris). On a last note, Rullysim missed this pond visit as he had to go to school. Apparently our friend is going to law school during weekends. It can't be for the money, so we can only presume he's making sure what his legal rights are in the cases whereby a dealer sells him a male fish while promising a female. Study hard, Rully, and share your knowledge with us when you can ascertain how much compensation we're entitled to in such events. In the meantime i'll start listing down where i got those male fishes of mine from. Have a nice weekend everyone, and till next time. cheers,
