Hi luckyl,

Hope you don't mind me barging him. Very nice pair of Kohakus. The bottom one (Rendy's?) is more persimmon colour than the top one, which makes me think whether the bottom is female while the top is male. Am I correct to assume this? The bodies on both looks fantastic which makes me think otherwise! Worthy ones to keep indeed and a good testament to Rendy's pond and skill.

cheers..

Hi Mr. Spyder,
Until today both are female. Has been rubbing them for quite a while..CoolCool still can't find any hard stuff...BlushBlush I mean both the chin and the fins are still very smooth... Hope they don't change in time..

Yeap...Rendy is doing a good job growing them with his feeding regime. I'm just a little bit worried if later they develop a drop belly for such a high feeding rate, especially those whose eat like vacuum cleaner.

Mr. LuckyL,

Good job to Rendy and too u mr luckyl... U must be sooo proud (and lucky too) to get that inazuma w/ such a bargain price Wink .. no wonder you brag around to let everyone knows you get a very good deal. Both has good confirmation, skin quality couldn't tell coz photo kind of blur but i think rendy's pond has produced good beni albeit yellowish shiroji as he told me so due too full exposure to sunlight.

anywae i wil participate in this thread by posting mine soon. rully has posted his too. how about u Joy san, care to join ? pls together wt 'gandland bos' pick if you will

Hi all,

san thx for posting the photo...fortunately, ur kois are 'the' Vacuum Cleaner of the pond, so he'll be the first to belly it down hehehe j/kLaugh...seriously, so u can sleep well Smile, I did trim down on my feeding regime recently hehe...

Hi GC, how's the s'pore show preparation goin'? are ur kois gonna be in it? saw the pict of the dealer visit u guys had before...indeed, the kois are excellent, especially the murakamis, did u guys decide to purchase the maruyama showas at Nippon? say hello to Derrick for me...btw, I dun think I hev a good skill at all lah Wink, just plenty of feeding, good source of water (60 m deep well water) and plenty of sunshine (As paul mentioned, it's good for enhancing gosanke's beni quality, however, it will cause a bit of yellowing to the shiroji)...

U r right paul, the sumi on my sanke does come up a little bit, which is a bit surprising coz my KH is in the medium range...as for the baldy look, I tought it was in fashion heheCool...when I bought it at sugi's, I was initially impressed with the sanke body conformation, it had a long body with a broad en long head, typical matsunosuke bloodline...It did turned out to be male...nevertheless, with its growth rate, I have no regret at all...

Rul, should you decide to move down to the south, I think it will be me that's gonna book a place on your new big pond hehe Laugh...In that area, there's no doubt that the water quality would be superb...

Hi Rendy, I am not involved with koi show but I assume it is going on fine and no, I don't have any koi in it. The visit was a blast! The murakamis were eye openers. There were quite a fair bit of Maruyama Kohakus that we saw at Nippon (currently under Q) that were very good too! We bought all the Maruyama Showas featured. I have received so many feedback and I still cannot thank every one enough. I decided to get the last remaining reserve so that we can all monitor the growth. To me, it is just another project and an experiment. How about going to the thread and post your impressions? Would appreciate that. Heck, the results on the kohakus are showing nicely. I am even tempted to buy one koi and board it there too. That would force you to post more updates ShockedSly Nice going! cheers..

Re: [rendy_e] Benihanako Tosai [In reply to] Can't Post

Ren how do u feed your kois ? do you feed them with dry pellet ?

I was told once that to prevent the belly to go down from heavy feeding, it is actually good to soak the pellets with water until it expands and soft. That's how I feed my kois now and eventhough the feeding is heavy, I don't see no belly going down.

Anyone to comment on this method?

Re: [rullysim] Benihanako Tosai [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Rully,

There has certainly been alot of discussion along this line but I still lean towards genetic as the main cause of hanging, droopy stomach. There were some old article discussions on koi food in Koi-bito magazine. One of the key takeover from those discussions is that the pellets lose its vitamin content by leaching within 30 seconds of hitting the water. So you might lose some of the goodness when you pre-soak. Something to consider.

Cheers..

Got the benihanako on 7 Feb 05 at around 20 cm (no picture). Current picture is 38cm. I suspect this one is a male ... Frown but pretty tame to be fed by hand and body confirmation is not too bad either Smile

San,
Mine is doing very good in Joy's pond. It was 21 when I got from Golden end of November and last month was 41. So maybe just between you and me, we can start to compete as the best "tukangtitip"Wink
The others Benihanako off spring in PH ponds are growing also but have never really measured them. Haven't managed to learn the "handmeter" from you.Wink

Btw, this photo was taken on March. Thanks to Joy.

I dont have the others pictures but I think they should be around 38 cm.
There is one growing very fast, so fast that you can see the difference with the other but loses the maruten and become a "monk"
Anyway, I am still very happy with all the Benihanako off spring.

Rul, originally, I did soak the pellet in the water for around 3 mins, before feeding...However, an experienced Singapore dealer (Zion Koi) told me that Koi Pellets are designed to be fed without soaking...GC was right, we might loose important vitamins if we soak them first...

Ris, I saw ur 'running man' just last week at joy's...very nice body conformation and certainly spotted an unbeatable pattern hehe...couldn't wait to see ur pond finishing soon ya...I do agree that the beni hanako offspring are a good good buy...reasonable quality with excellent price hehe Wink...

San, bad experience happens once in a while lah, I take it as an important learning curve, at least we now have the solution...'Oxygen Tanks'...wish we knew about it before hand ya hehe Smile...

Ric, I'll c u on Saturday, 10-11 o clock start would be good...Paul, do come down if u have a time to spare...

Hi Ren,

Cannot agree with you more that the benihanako is a very good buy indeed. I took mine this morning and it is measured at 44cm, a bit smaller than yours. So you are still at the first place Wink

My Momotaro Sanke measured at 50cm this morning ... great progress on this lady.

happy koiing guys Wink
