Hi f_ikyos,

Welcome to the forum. Glad you have this new hobby into your life. There are some basics criteria to chose koi, and there are another specific criteria to chose kois depend on their types.

Some of the basic criterias are :
- Body shape
- Skin & colour quality
- Pattern
- Luster

Appreciating kois is just like we appreciate painting. It's very personal taste though there are some basic criterias/rules over it. Unfortunately you koi pic is quite dark. I bet it's a showa, and we cannot judge the koi on less lighting pics.

Welcome f_ikyos,

How many kois you have right now?
Can you tell us the dimension of your pond?
What is the filtration systems?

Please remember not to add too many kois in your pond
as it will be fatal to your kois. (please read about new pond syndrome)

36m2 pond is not a small pond. It's adequate for some big kois, but filtration system should be ok. How long have you enter the kois to your pond?

You have around 6 m3 (approximately 6 ton) for 9 kois, I think that is a good size.

How big are your kois right now?

What are your filtration systems?

Could you post some photos?

The koi isn't mine. It belongs to f_kyois. But if you're asking me how old usually a 5" koi, then I would say it's a tosai koi (one year old).

f_kyois, my mistake to miscount your pond volume. It's 6 ton pond as Ricky wrote.

Jarvis,

IMHO, to me, age of a koi is very important information that I should know when I'm buying a koi. Why? Because I would love to see the kois I bought grow and being bigger with the longest size it could be unless I'm a mini koi lover Wink

. A young koi ofcourse will give such a "guarantee" that it's growing bigger and bigger and I'm felling happy seeing the koi develop and grow.

Yeah watching them grow is very fun......

I perfer koi of 5 inch....cheaper and better at telling quality from say 3 inchers....

Also mature koi would be nice....but to get a lot of them....I'd need a bigger pond... Crazy
