Halo Pak
welcome to our 3 men crusade at the Indonesian forum here!
how big is your pond and what kind of media do you need? i think there are a few cheaper places than the 2 you mentioned.
you can email me at soelistyo@pacific.net.sg if you would like details.

if you are serious about koi, we should meet up sometime together with Pak Hasan. We can visit each other's ponds. I also have another friend who is building his pond now.

kind regards,
Joy

Hi Mr.888 (Mr. Fat Chai ????)

Each places has their own media type with their own prices. U should compare the quality and then decided which one you like.
How is your filter's system build up ? What kind of filter media you plan to use ?? There are filter mate, bio balls, bacteria house, bio home, brushes, cotton wools, zeolits,..... So I suggest you plan it well so when your fish jump in, they really jump in a five star hotelWinkWinkWink, not a motelUnsureUnsureUnsure. Then we will try our best to inform you the right shop to go. There are also dragon koi, royal koi, goldenkoi, sunterkoi, ........Cheers.Laugh

Which side of Jakarta you located ?

Well, actualy I almost finished building my pond. The problem is I encountered water source when digging more than 1 meter. Thus, I can only make my pond and filter chambers depths to be 80 cm max Unsure. Now for the vortex chamber which is 130-140cm deep, the water from below still leaking ... any idea to fix this ????? CrazyI tried puting water lily pot as the botom of vortex chamber but the pipe outlet from the pond is sticking out on one side of the pot and water leaks from around the PVC pipe. Can cements sticks well to PVC pipe ??Crazy Pls advise.

Hi Hasan Smile,

Nice to get responds from you guys. Ha3x Sly no Mr Fat Chai lah, its just i like with number 8, thats all. So far I almost managed to finish my pond construction .. finger crossed Crazy!!. Next step after taking care of the water leaking is to apply fiber paint/coat liner and buy the filter media which all could take 2 weeks to complete Unsure. Cant wait to put those kois into pond............Pirate

My pond designs are as follow:
Volume:
Pond: +/- 6 tons, Depth: 80-90 cm (Unsure, I know I know the larger the better but limited space and budget)
Vortex and filter chambers: +/- 2 tons Depth: 60cm to 130 cm

Dimension
Vortex: diameter 70 cm depth 140 cm (1 vortex)
Filter chambers: 60 x 60 x 60 cm (3 filter chambers)

Filtermedia
Vortex: roll brushes
Filter chambers (4): japs filter mats for 1st chamber, bio ball for 2nd and 3rd chambers, ziolite for 4 chambers.

Mechanism:
2 bottom drains (4' pipe) to vortex which also serves as settlement chamber, then connect to 1st filter chamber using two 4' pipes (intake from surface and outtake to the bottom of the next chambers and so on). Then in the last chamber (clean water reservoir) use 2 pumps to return water to the pond. I also placed one 2' pipe skimmer with outflow to the vortex.

What do guys think ?? Your comments are greatly appriciated. Btw, is cement pond better than pond with fiber coating liner (that black paint thing) ?? How about bacterial booster (sold in bottle to start up baterial growth especially in new pond) Does it really works ? And where is the best place(s) to buy the filter material and kois (local & Jap) ?

I live in Klp Gdng area. Where do you guys live ?

Best regards,
Paulino

Re: [koi 888] Jakarta [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Paulino,

If the leaking is still inside the pond, cement will help as the water pressure is almost the same from each chamber. But if the water is leaking out from the pond to outside of the pond, then it is hard to deal. I don’t think cement can hold the water pressure. Try things like aquaproof etc, hopefully it help stop the leak.
BTW, I think having a pvc outlet from the pond’s wall is not a good idea. When I built my pond, first I lay a big plastic bag then I start to built up the wall and the base with cement and bricks with no outlet. When it is finished then I started to place the pvc pipe for filtering systems and then cover it with cements again. Leaking is a problem I never want to deal with.

Hi,

Currently, I still have not filled the water cause we wait for the cement to get dried. Vortex is empty now and the leaking comes from underneath (earth) into the vortex (outside to inside vortex). It is minimal though around 1 liter per day. I planned to overhaul the vortex by building new base now. Will try to lay plastic layer underneath the base. Hope it works. As for the pond liner what do u think ?
And phone number fo royal, golden, dragon and others pls ...

Thanks,

Hi there, you've got me as well, my name is Karom, I lived in Depok, I keep Koi since long time ago (local one of-course) but never seriously, I start my first pond 2.5mx2mx1m without filtering system, see how stupid I am then I browse the internet and make my first filter. now I have 3 ponds in my house but still not many Koi I have, I used to have about 40 Kois half of them died in the same time, that was my nightmare 4 years ago when I pulang kampung my maid over fed my Kois at the same time the pump was broken ( I tried to forgot that disaster ).
Anyway nice to know you guys, right now I am kind of restarting my abandoned hobby which is keeping the lovely Koi fishes, my 2nd and 3rd Pond have just finished couple of months ago. thanks - Karom

There is a special black paint for the pond. It will make your pond looks clean and clear. Dragon koi and golden koi have it, the rest I'm not sure.

Dragon koi - 5674758, 5674759 (greeen ville)
Dinamika koi - 4615546 (Taman pegangsaan, close to u )
Golden koi - 70711478, 278
Royal koi - 5658062
Indokoi - 5324438

Hi Elizabeth & Karom,

Glad to hear from u guys..Welcome....
First I thought only me and soelistyo playing the double team in this forum, now we even have double mix. Its nice to have a young lady in the group too...

ahhh...Karom !! If i only bulit my pond just like yours (no filter first), . I will be able to get more spaces for my pond. Then built a complete TT tower....it will be a blest in disguiseCrazyCrazy

Tya, If you got a pop eye, I suggest to quarantine it first of all. Put lots of areation for it. A lot of medication for pop eyes. But first you can check this forum for pop eyes in the 'health and medication', just search for pop eye or popeye. I never experence a pop eye before so can't tell much, but lots of master will tell you how in the health section.
I also got a kind of very light tea color but crystal clear. Don't know why, maybe cause I'm using a well water, not a tap water. If you feel frustated to get a crystal clear, then this is what I do but need lots of work. I arrange my system contraversy with the most systems. My first layer is the white cotton wool, then second is the taiwan mate (deep blue color). Then the rest is the biological filtering systems (bi0-balls, bio home etc). By this All the big, small, tiny, microns debris will not pass through. But then I will have the cotton wool and the taiwan mate washed twice a day, or else they will 'macet'. Lots of work, but then I have my pembantu doing itBlushBlush... and my water is crsytal clear.SlySly
If your pond is still 3 months old, i suggest you check the water parameters (minimum - ph, amonium, nitrite) weekly so you have a good and healthy enviroment for them. Starting to feel stress rather than joy ???? Welcome to this hoby....

Hi tya,

I m a beginner myself and also curiuos to know about this hobby !!! About the filter, only as a suggestion, u should be able to find filter equip in aussie too b/c if you ship it from Indo to Sydney its going too cost u a lot !!!

Here in some shops in Jakarta they sold Oase filter which is sold in 2 type - 5m3 and 10 m3 volume. Pretty compact and lightweight. But dunno about the performance. Check kasakoi.com they sold this filter.

As for the pop eye, brownish water i couldn't help but it is probably b/c of the filtering quality. What type of filter u currently use now ?

Bu Tya, Tewa is in Oz but i'm not sure if it's in Sydney. Not necessarily so that Oz companies have .au in their add, cause their server might be in a foreign country. that's why it's called worldwideweb lah hehehe

most of us construct filter when we make a pond. it's most rational that way. if you buy a filter after making pond, all kinds of problem come up such as how do you back-fit the bottom drain and pipings? if you buy a ready made filter, there are quite a few brands. atman, as i understand it (i might be mistaken) is simply a pump. you still need filter chambers otherwise it's not a filter! pompa is not saringan loh.

if you have no other way of getting advice in oz, i suggest to check with your local koi club. there is a koi club in oz, i'm sure they'd be happy to help you. usually koi clubs have koi enthusiasts who'd welcome a new member.

btw, how big is your pond?

p/s: the owner of TEWA is actually a member of this forum. check out his posting: http://www.koi.com.my/cgi-bin/koiforum/gforum.cgi?post=38021;#38021
why don't you give him a private message so you can consult him directly?
