My rebuilding pond Can't Post

After fell in love with koi, I decided to rebuilding my pond from 10 ton pond to be about 56 ton pond. This time I built with some major changes on the filtering system, and so on. In short, I'll put some pics first then I'll post how the pond is prepared to be.

Cheers,

After filling the pond with water, I ran the 2 Lowara type DOMO 10A which each could move about 26 cubic of water, so 2 pump could cycle the water 1x / hour. The surface of vortex chamber seem like twirling tornado Wink

On the right pic, they are chiller components to freeze the water which I'm expecting to be approx. 18 degree celcius.

at last the view of trial day taken from top and behind...
the right pic, on the inside is dining room with glass on the floor so I can see the kois when eating or sitting over there Wink

My pond size is 4.1m x 7.4m x 2m (2,25 to the bottom drain)
Kaldness filter chamber size is about 1m x 1m x 1,8m depth. I'm using 21 bag of kaldness which equal to 1050 litre of kaldness.
Vortex chamber is 1,2m x 1,2m x 3,2m depth
I set 4 point of deep water return if needed sometime.

Please give me your comment for giving my pond optimal condition.

Hi Jon,

Thanks for your comment. I'm using 8" pipe for the single bottom drain which the cover was made with cement by the person who made the pond. The bottom drain was equipped with 4" pipe to be used to flush out the debris or anything.

Hi Monscine,

Nicely done mate, love the glass floorCool Do you mind posting some pic of the BD? I didn't notice any valves, so how will you prevent the flow from pond to filters during maintenance? Also do you have any TPR's?

Jon

Hi Jon,

Yes, I love the glass too. I uploaded the pic of the "home made" BD which similar like dome shape. Im not using any valve. Just piping on the waste chamber which later will be applied with aerator to make almost automatic flush for pond maintenance. I'll using drip water system so the water on pond will be changing everyday with this system.

btw, what do you mean by TPR?

cheers,

Hi Monscine,

I've noticed you have air line out side the BD pipe, I think it would be nicer and could be safer if you place them inside the pipe, IMHOWink That's how I did mine so no air line visibleSmile

TPR means tangential pond return. Some large ponds I've seen have 2 to 10(depending on pond shape) of these to push the water towards the BD keeping the floor clean. Anyway, you have 2 air ring on top of the BD which will help. What size air pump you have to run them???

rgds,
Jon

Hi Jon,

Actually it's not an air line, but a underwater lamp with DC voltage which can changing colors Wink

To me, TPR seems alike with deep water return, if this what you mean, then it was prepared on each corners. And as you said, double air ring certainly will help to clean up the floor. I'll use 100W hiblo for each air ring.

Hi Monscine,

Very awesome pond indeed! Just a couple of questions here:-

1) From the photo of your ' home made BD ', will you be placing a stainless steel grating over the sunken hole
with the 8" bottom drain? If not, I think you will eventually find 1 or 2 koi making their way to your vortex chamber.

2) Very interested to find out more regarding your chiller system set-up. I am sure there are more to it than the
couple of cooling coil components shown which are placed into the circular chamber? Is it really so simple? If it is,
I would certainly want to have a similar chiller set-up for my pond as well, LOL!

Best Regards,
Thiam Hwa

Thanks Tiam Hwa,

To your questions :
1. I set the space for the bottom drain for about 5cm. And I don't cover it with stainless steel. The reasons are that it's hard to find to find 716 carat stainless steel that rustproof overhere and second fortunately my kois are at size that wouldn't suck in to the bottom drain.

2. Hahaha, you are right bro...there are some more devices instead of those parts shown on the filter chamber ie. the temperatur sensor device with its automatic controller. This device will stable the water temperature. Other things are filter dryer, 2 chiller 2 PK (made from outdoor unit of Air Conditioner), air drain, and AC pipes. I want to try to reach 18 degree of water temperature and experiment it to its effect on the kois.

Thanks guys for the pre real pond visit. The pond was filled by mountain spring water yesterday. And I guess next week I'll start jump in some kois to move on the filter maturation. Hopefully we'll get to Rendy's new 150 ton pond visit soon enough with remarkable filtration system. Wink
