For UV lights with full cover and external pumps, you could also try Laris in Makaliwe, Grogol area. Most of the dealers sold Tsurumi submersible pumps and UV lights with top cover only. Agree with Koi-Larve, BD that Andymadd talked about is only available overseas. For DIY, it's really simple, you could have 60-80 cm mini vortex on the bottom of your pond and use a 4" PVC pipe as the waste line. The 4" waste line then is connected directly to your settlement chamber. The dome could be constructed as you'd like. If ur pond is bigger than 12 ton, 2 EA 4" BD is advisable.

Hope this helps...

Hi Budi,

I upload your construction design inline so we can discuss together about your future pond.

First of all, the size of your pond (exclude filter section) is 4m x 2,5m x 1,4m which means that you have a 14 ton pond. I would suggest 1,75m depth to get more water volume. If you make it 1,75m, then the pond will be 17,5 ton. Logically, more water, you can put more kois.
As mention by Andymadd on pond construction section, it's better to use only single bottom drain to the size of your pond. The reason was given overthere nicely. At the other hand, a single bottom drain will have greater suction than if you give it 2 BD. But for 1 BD, I would suggest you to use 6" or 8" pipe instead of 4". For the pond wall, it's better to put bricks first all along the wall and base of the pond before the wall itself. The bricks will be usefull to prevent the crack of your pond because of earth moving and to reduce tension of the construction.
For the skimmer, I would suggest you to put about 2 point of skimmer to wash out effectively oil and other debris on the water surface.

Now flash discussion on your filtering section. I would suggest you make 2 vortex chamber to ensure big debris would get down perfectly. And I would suggest just make the flow in one line instead of zig zag flow. So, the the flow will be 1,4,5,6,3,2. I will put mat first before K1. If you use K1, you should make the filter chamber in round shape so the K1 would circle nicely. The air flexi should be placed stick on the centre with flow pipe. I would suggest you to use more K1 cause 50 litre of K1 been said could handle about 500gr of koi food.

For the skimmer, I guess you could connect it to your vortex chamber, so you could wipe out dedicated pump for the skimmer. Water from the skimmer will be flow cause gravity and surface difference. For deep water return and ventury, I would suggest you to use dedicated pump if you are willing to use them continously. Please read more about using deep water return for a long term, because there are pro contra about this method.

For the pump, you could use Tsurumi which has been well known to koi hobbyist. Myself use Lowara pump which I think has less power but bigger pumping power than Tsurumi. I'm using 2 unit Lowara type DOMO-10 for my 56 ton pond. The pump could be bought at fish stores or at Glodok area. Be aware to seek anti corotion material for the pump as the water would be a bit salty (you would sometime need salt for your water treatment). The ideal pump should could move your pond water to 1 - 2 hour / cycle, so just calculate your pond capacity with the pump specification. For UV, you could either use the compact one or DIY with UV lamp placed on your filter chamber.

That's all for now. Good-luck and welcome to the kois world ;)

Cheers,

Re: [koi-rava] Newbie - Koi Pond Construction [In reply to] Can't Post

I just back from Semarang and have time to visit koi farm in Ungaran area. Meet with the owner : Mr. Agus.
Get a lot of discussion from him.
Also just read all the advise and answer from this forum. I will adjust my design and upload it again to correct the pond.
I come to the conclusion that I will do the construction using labors and supervised by myself.

As inform by brother koi rava, BD is not availaible here. Just think of buying from eBay or Aussie Koi. Or could I get advise where I could find koi store in Singapore/Thailand/HongKong/Shenzhen or KL ? I will travel in above places next week to do my work. Just think if I can hand carry.

Thanks a lot and appreciate all your assistance in here.
Budi

Hi Budi,

I just recently bought Spidrifter BD from Aussie Koi and sent it to Jakarta thru a Freight Forwarder. I guess spindrifter is one of the better one, coz it is aerated. Unfortunately, as I haven't finished constructing my pond, I can't vouch for this BD yet. Having said that, there are lots of good reviews regarding this spindrifter BD.

Actually, my brother lives just 20 mins from Tim, aussie Koi, in Brisbane, Oz. He will be bringing back my sequence pump (purchased from Aussie Koi also) to Jakarta on mid November, do let me know if you're interested to get the BD.

As for other countries, I've just been to Max and Zion Koi (Singapore) last week and they don't supply this BD. In KL, you could probably try Sentul Park Koi Centre and Kepong Koi.

Dear Rendy,

Thanks for your info. Just check in Aussie Koi - Spindrifter BD is very expensive. Don't know if there are a lot of benefit compare to standard BD.
Have to buy a lot of things to construct my pond. Anyway, since you are just contruct your pond also, do you mind if I can disturb you by asking many parts to buy? Cause I'm totally don't know where to buy all items such venturi, pump, uv light, pvc, etc.
Appreciate your assistance very much.

Btw, I pm my number to you, if you don't mind - please advise back.
Thanks,
Budi

Hi budi,

No problem at all. Again I am no expert here, but it's always better to share and discuss information among hobbyists...as this is my 2nd pond already, I experinced that pond must be built once and perfect as modification in the long run is just troublesome. Feel free to drop your questions here...

I've PM you back...

cheers

Hi Budi,

I just want to chime in for more info I know the owner of Aussiekoi and I got my BD from him also but I only bought the standard 4" BD then I bought the air diffuser. It cost me less than $200AUSD.

BTW, I was looking at your pond plan, you can get away with one BD(like Andymadd mentioned) only since you're having skimmer. You can pull 14,000L/hr in a 4" BD. But I have to insist to add BD air diffuser. This will be the best thing you can have in your pond. I have a pic under my constraction thread if you want to check it outSmile

BTW, 55watts UV will be suitable for your pond. Tim(Aussiekoi) sells them too

rgds,
Jon
