Progress of Local Koi Industry Can't Post

Hi all,

I'm just wondering how is our Local Koi Industry going, from the sense of the size, quality and quantity of koi produced, distribution, show and all. I'm studying in Singapore, so i can't really follow the local koi industry in Indonesia. Except from milist, website, my dad and my dealer there.

Maybe, is there any one of us who owns a SUPER locally bred koi at jumbo size ? well, can't expect to be 80++cm, maybe around 60-70 cm...If there is such person, would you like to share the pic to us ?

Well, i owns sanke, locally bred from my dealer...I am not sure wether it is true tategoi...but...the reason i bought it, last time...its hi was not red yet (orange and spread evenly)...its sumi wasn't really solid (traces of sumi spread over at good places)...has good body...and hence, i assumed it is something different from other local koi at her size..she was 32cm, now... i have no idea, sadly i din take her pic...my dad is going to take it out from mudpond tomorrow, and give it to my dealer for show preparation, if..and if...she is as what i though when i bought it...maybe, she'll try her luck at next Koi Show at TMII

base on my experience certain type of local koi especially gosanke n kawarimono has the potential to compete with jap koi in size, skin n pattern but only if they have good genetics from their oyagoi .
i have a 70cm+ chagoi from blitar ( unfortunately lost during the flood Unsure ) n 60cm kohaku with skin n lustre that can be easily pass as jap koi.

cantonguy : i love your chagoi, and can't imagine it actually reach 70+ cm ! but, hmmm...flood...yeah...it suxx...i wonder if i decided to put all my koi inside my house in K Gading last time...

anyway, since i rarely and in fact i can't go around to Indonesian koi dealers (local and import) except during my holiday...do you have any idea about the quality of local koi (to make it easier, at Hanggar Pancoran) ?

one thing that diferentiate local koi industry and jap industry is that, in Indonesia, people often refer their koi to the 'dealers' product' rather than the 'farmers' product'...this is one thing that i hate but, i can't do anything to change it...

hence, do you have any info wether the local famers at Blitar are already using good oyagoi ? coz, from my expereince going to Blitar and when i actually purchased my koi at Hanggar, i always and have to ask about the history of the koi...i can't really get the name of the farmers except from my 2 dealers whom really very close to me...but, most of the people says that their oyagoi is around 60cm (which i personally feels that...it's far from being a good oyagoi)...

it is because, there is a trend that the local koi price is increasing (at increasing rate)...some of the rare cases, reaches 2 digit millions (which like, c'mon ?!? are you sure)...those 2 digit millions samples tt i found, are really good, comparable to imported koi...but the main problem comes in, at their size 40cm++, they are already finished...

sometimes i wonder, since imported koi, are according to my friends, dealers, millist and all...are actually decreasing, due to competition from local industry, other importer and reduction in tax-redtapes and all...i might really shift to imported koi one day...

the main reason, i like to buy koi from young which has really bright future (well...at least not finish to soon)...and, from what i read and see, for imported koi, it is very hard to get the true tosai tategoi in Indonesia...therefore, the only possible sources is local koi, where, maybe with help from certain people, i can get to the farmer directly and purchasing their best fish (maybe....)

Dimas,

I think there are few of Blitar's breeders who use big oyagoi ex import supplied/borrowed by a Surabayan dealer (if I am not mistaken Pak Fadjar Surya).
Sorry but I don't know names of those Blitar's breeders but you could check it out in KOIS forum. Some friends will surely extend you the information.
Nevertheless, I haven't been informed for the offspring of those ex import oyagoi's breeding, it would be interesting if they also use ex imported males.

cheers
chester
