Question about filter. very concern here. Can't Post

Ok. first thing, I am not currently at home and my dad is taking care of my koi's. I called him today to check on my koi and he said that my pump stopped working. so not knowing what to do, he just took his time and tried to get the pump repaired ( im using a submersible pump, cheap ones you get in cartimar) anyway, he said that my filter box didnt worked for 3 day. THATS RIGHT!!! 3 DAYS!!!
my koi's were swimming for 3 days without any filter system. ( I dont have any aerator for my pond either, never seemed to need it)
But my dad told me that my fish are all doing well and happy and just swimming about and just eating like hogs. should I believe him? hehehehe
Anyways my concern is, what would happen if the filter stopped working for 3 days, would the good bacteria have died? even thou the filter didnt work, the filter media is still submerged in water and I have aerator for my japanese mats.
I am very worried since I have been dong this hobby for only 10 months or so and that my fish is swimming in their own piss and shit, which of course the result is death.
but my dad said he had the pump repaired but the water going back to the pond from the filter is not as it used to be. again, that means disaster.
I wont be back in manila for another month and Im already having nightmares that my koi's died (yikes)

please advice. Aragon and Hinz to the rescue, please :)

Re: [mikoi] Question about filter. very concern here. [In reply to] Can't Post

well, for the current situation:

-a little water change wouldnt hurt (actually it could if it were too much; and/or without anti-chlorine)
-feeding less would also help, once every 2 days is ok til everything's fine

for next time:

-a backup pump or better yet... 2 pumps working at the same time
-tell him not to feed the koi if there is no pump or circulation of water
-he could have put fresh water from the pond into the filter every now and then (to make sure the good bacteria has something to eat)

at least you had an aerator for the mats. im sure that saved a lot of good bacteria.
