Water Pump Specs Can't Post

Guys,

This is a bit naive question but am asking it anyway...

If you see Sequence 40/60 or ITT Marlow 50/40, what does 40/60 or 50/60 mean? Is it flowrate? Inlet/outlet valve ratio?

Never really knew what it meant.

Thanks.

I think what that means is the head loss.
the higher you go it will decrease the power

Head is a measure of resistance to flow. If a pump has a maximum output of 20 head feet, it means it can pump water 20' straight up in the air. If a pump is rated at 50 gallons per minute at 10 feet it means it can pump water up 10 feet and still deliver 50 GPM. As you increase the head, (above the full flow head) you will decrease the flow rate. Therefore to maximize your flow, you must minimize your head.

Mikoi,

Got it. Thanks. Just occurred to me, would HEAD be a function of outlet pipe diameter? Just curious...say, if you have the same pump for example Sequence 750 with both having 2in inlet pipes and one having 1.5in outlet and the other having 2in outlet pipes would the HEAD still be the same and reach the same water height? Just curious really...

Also, when a pump is rated say 3600GPH, does it mean US or UK gallons. I know the conversion of Cubic Feet is x 6.25 (for UK gals) and 7.48 (for US gals). This is really confusing. So what does 3600GPH mean?

Any inputs will be highly appreciated.

Thanks.
