Where to get black paint for the pond? Can't Post

Hi,

Where do you usually get black paint for your pond? I've been trying to look for black elastomeric paint but still could not find any. Are there other types of paint that are recommended for the pond?. Any suggested shops in QC? Thanks!

My friend.

just go to any hardware store.

get the brand name " FLEXSEAL" it comes in different colors. Black, blue..etc.

it is around 275 php

1 can or 4 liters.

Cambridge paints " FLEXSEAL" elastomeric paint

that's what I used for my pond.

I hope this information helped.

Hi Guys!
I'm new to this forum and now building my pond (5x5x3 ft.). When you say 'Paint' are you referring to the process of waterproofing pond? Because I'm trying to buy a mixture to waterproof my pond and I'm quoting all brands you've mentioned on this thread. My location is in San Fernando, Pampanga and I hope you can point me to a right store (near my place)where I can buy these stuff. Also if anyone out there who are also from this side of town please send me a note so that I can more or less get a tip from you experts in keeping a koi pond.

Thanks! more power.

ABCortez

the black paint also serves as a waterproofing.

but of course when you had your pond built, I am assuming you used cement blocks, they usually put waterproofing
mixed with the cement and sand, right? that is usually the main waterproofing for the pond.

As for brand names, I honestly think it doesn't really matter, but, of course you get what you pay for, but if you do a price comparison for each brand there is only a small difference in price like 10 to 15 pesos unless it is imported.

Don't be shy to ask.

Hi koi-ya-koi!

The waterproofing of a pond does not necessarily involve paint. You could actually waterproof a pond without painting it.
However, just the cement alone is not enough to ensure that the pond is completely waterproofed. In reality, paint does not really serve as a means for waterproofing your pond. It could only help. But to rely on paint and cement alone to fight the possible leaks in your pond would be a very risky gamble. The real purpose of paint is to block the cement from seeping into the pond upon being filled with water. Because of the naturally high pH levels of cement, it is naturally bad for your Koi. Furthermore, once the pH levels have risen due to the cement, it is rather difficult to bring it to ideal levels regardless of how much you dilute or change the pond water.

The best waterproofing technique that is to use fiber glass to make sure that the pond is absolutely free of leaks. However it may come with a hefty price tag.

The more affordable option would be the epoxy elastomeric as some of the other koi keepers have mentioned.

I hope this has benefitted you.

Yes black elastomeric paint from flexseal is great for my pond. Ace, MC or other depots does not carry that brand simply because they want to profit more and sells much newer brands to get their profit margins. But, a lot of hardware stores - big and small carries flexseal made by campbridge paints.

Elastomeric paints are water based so no problem with toxicity of the material unlike epoxy which is solvent based. And i have already tried epoxy system on my pond but they tend to deteriorate when exposed to uv rays as the manufacturers of epoxy based systems will tell you.

Hope this helps too.

Has anyone here used lansco cement coloring?

For color... I just mixed black lansco cement additive to the final cement coat for the pond.

It's available at most hardware stores and is cheap too.. no need for buying elastomeric paint.
