bug eye, pop eye, general weakness Can't Post

hello all,

I have visited somebody's pond this week. He has good quality koi. But from the looks of it i think the kois are sick out of neglect. It is obvious that water quality has not been regurly checked, monitored and corrected. I am hoping to buy two of the koi as soon as I get a pond established but I am worried about the state of their health. I noticed that they are not as "active as normal" and they appear weak and some of them have their eyes bulging. I do not want to buy them and would not be able to restore their health as soon as I have them in my care.

I have searched this forum for answers and I did acquire some good ideas about the matter. But I am wondering if any of you guys from the Philippines/Cebu have some ideas about this particular issue. Some of the solutions posted in the forum, I believe, could not simply apply in our local context. Medicines, solutions, etc., are not, I assume, available in Cebu (or am I wrong?).

Is it really possible to have a koi, displaying the symptoms of an illness mentioned above restored back to normal health? What steps should be taken and medicines applied to cure such illness? What are the medicines available and where could we purchase them here in Cebu? For how long would the duration of the medication take? Thanks y'all.
Philip

Hi Philip

Do's and Donts in buying fish. Dont ever buy a fish which has deformities and illness no matter how much you like to have that fish. In the 2nd place you still dont have the pond to place it and it might get worse under your care. Most of the sick fish that you find here that have deseases are due to lack of knowledge bout koi keeping and insufficient pond filtration and of course water quality.

Btw, Whos pond did you visit?
