Help Efforts for the earthquake victims in China Can't Post

Hi, all the koi friends in Singapore

While many others are starting a donation exercise to help the earthquake victims in China, I did not see any similar effort from the koi world. While many are suffering due to the natural disaster, we are here enjoying the expensive koi hobby.

As such, I would like to take the lead to do something. I am donating 20% of my koi sale (see the buy and sell). I know the 20% is small.

Since I am not working, I will also contribute more by organizing more activities for the victims of the disaster. I have in mind to setup a koi auction with the money collected to be donate. To do this, I need the help of all the koi friends in Singapore. There are several things I will do

1. Setup a koi auction page which I already have in my koi website.
2. I need quality koi donation from those hobbyist that are intending to reduce their load.
3. I need quality koi donation from farm. I will try to contact the dealers in Singapore. If any of the hobbyists are going to the farm, please help to talk to the dealers too.
4. I will do the logistic like collecting the fish and deliver to the winner of the auction.
5. I will collect cheque from the winner and donate them.
6. I need to know who the payee to be written on the cheque.

So while I am doing the above, I hope to get acknowledge from you to know whether this exercise will success. Also, I hope to get help from you to pass this message around.

Meantime, please come back to this page to know the detail and follow-up.

My contact is 65-96695889 if any of you have better ideas of what need to be done.

We can extend this to the Malaysian if there is help from there.

Regards

More information on this donation drive ..

I had setup a koi auction page. http://www.koifriends.com/eauction/eAuction.pl and start the ball rolling with a male Momo sanke. I hope more will follow by registering, and then put their koi for this donation auction. A few point to note.

1. Please use the same nick name so we can know you
2. Please put your mobile phone number during the registation so I can contact you
3. When key in the pricing for the auction, please put a ".00" behind. For example, if the start price is $100, put $100.00
4. For those that are bidding, you will also need to register. Again use the same nick as here.
5. For the winner, please prepare a cheque to Singapore Red Cross Society per below

Cheque Donations
Cheque can be made payable to:
Singapore Red Cross Society,
indicate behind the cheque it is for the Red Cross China Earthquake Appeal.

6. I will collect the cheque from you when the koi is delivered and send them to the following address

Send the cheque to:
Singapore Red Cross Society
15 Penang Lane, Singapore 238486

*Singpost waives postage for cheque donations to Singapore Red Cross

7. I will make a list here, listing out who donate koi and who bid for koi in this forum so as to be transparent in all the dealing.

For other that are not interested in bidding for any koi, you can also make your donation yourself. Please see the below link for information. http://www.redcross.org.sg/chinaearthquake_src_donate.htm

I had sms Weetin asking him to be my partner in this donation drive. I will discuss with him on going around the farm to ask for koi donation for this exercise. Please come visit the auction page and do your part for the victims.

Look like I am alone in this donation drive.. Maybe I am over reacting..

Yes, the polutation in China is huge and what is the different with just an earthquake.. It will not make a different as it will still be the highest polutation in the world.. Just like when koi breed, 1 pair will breed millions and many of them will end up natural dead.. So what is the big deal..

But God, those are human.. Every single count.. The koi food we feed our koi each day can fill the stomach of many victims. So can we all put together and stop feeding our koi for a day or two and donate the money to the victims?

I might be in the wrong forum pushing for a different thing, but please bear a though for those victims while you are looking at your koi.. Imagine this disaster happens in Singapore.. Do you think you can still have the mood to feed your koi.....

Sorry if this posting upsad you.

Thanks Rosequeen for providing another mean of donating.. As mentioned in the first post, there are many many donation drive.

What I am providing here is a win-win-win-win for all. A win for the victim to see more help, a win for the koi bidder to own koi, a win for the koi donor to clear their koi and a win for the koi to find new home.

Anyway, I might be wrong.. Smile.

More good news.

Luke from Sentul Park Koi farm in KL had agreed to donate a few piece for the donation exercise. With this, I can open the donation drive to the Malaysian so that if they win, they can collect the koi directly from Sentul. If it is won by Singaporean, I will drive back the koi from KL.

Regards Hi Welson , Charity Drives in Singapore has gone a long way since the Myanmar & China disasters that claimed hundreds of thousands of lives , as well as millions made homeless and hungry . Donations poured in , would only help the physical side , while many sympathical hearts cried along with those victims who had losts their love ones . Singaporeans do have a big heart . Trust me , there's plenty of Koi Hobbyists , together with many donors as well as charity organisations , that have made contributions one way or another , and donations are still pouring in every minute as I write this to you . YOU ARE NOT ALONE .Smile Most donors , including Koi Hobbyists have been doing their part all these while , but on a more discreet manner or probably donors feel insignificant over their contributions , or probably felt what we donors have done is merely doing our small bit for the community . Probably your message or idea only reaches a small pool of hobbyists in this Koi Circle . This appeal should have been raised by SKC , but unfortunately ...................Unimpressed Nevertheless , I would still support your good intention to raise funds for Singapore Red Cross . I would bowl out 5 to 10 of my Gosankes . Most of these Gosankes have not been put out for Koi Show before . They were mainly Jumbo Tosai or Nisai when I bought them . Most from Sakai fish farm or other reputable farm in Japan . These kois dun comes cheap for me , easily above $sin 5,000 each when I bought them , some cost much more . I have been keeping these kois for future show , current size easily now above 65 bu - maybe 70 - 75 bu ?? I have not been measuring these Kois for almost a year . Not a good practice to be always catching and measuring fishes . I do not agree to auction my fishes , but would simply suggest interested buyers make out a Sin$ 5,000/- cheque to Singapore red Cross for each of my " future " - gauranteed females ( I do not keep a single male ) , and hand it to Max Ng to be forwarded . I will try to get Max Ng to take photos of these Kohakus / sankes / Showa or Shiro and post it by next Monday . Interested buyer can simply take a trip to Max Koi Farm from next week after I put them in the quarantine area . By next Friday , these Kois should be able to be packed and send to your place . Believe Max will be supportive enough to do all the manual work or even put out more Kois for this drive of yours . If 10 is not enough , I will take out 20 Gosankes .. and if 20 gosankes is still not enough , I will send a message to farm dealers in Japan to support this drive of yours to raise funds for Singapore Red Cross .Wink Cheers Welson Regards David Soon

Re: [DavidSoon] Help Efforts for the earthquake victims in China [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi David, thanks for the supports on this donation drive. With your supports, together with that from JK, SPKC (Luke), Kelvin and Weetin, I am sure the koi circle can do something for the victims of the natural disaster. You are right on the auction stuff. Once I receive the photo from JK, SPKC, Kelvin and Weetin, I will setup a donation website to post those photo and sell them at fix price according to their quality.

I know that all the members from the SKC are professional or businessman and they are busy. As long as we can help the victims, who drive the effort is not important. Since I am not working at the moment, let me drive this.

Can you ask Max to send the pictures to me (welson.tan@hotmail.com) as well so that I can put them up in the donation website and have those interested to contact Max. And, since the koi circle is small, is it possible for you to talk to Max to throw in delivery to Indonsian and Malaysian so that we can get more people to join in the efforts. Let me know if this is not possible and I will gather efforts to contribute the delivery charges. The most important thing is to gather enough funds for the victims. That is the one and only objective of this drive.

Thanks.

Re: [koifriends] Help Efforts for the earthquake victims in China [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi

Firstly I would like to say to you and all donors what a commendable effort you all have made to kick start this fund raising. Just by donating your time and assets, you have contributed plenty and given the rest of us a fine example to give of ourselves. I would be honored to support this effort by participating in the auction when it starts.

Just a few suggestions:

Stick to an auction format to keep the fund raising on the same footing for all donated fish. This serves to ease the administration of the fund raising, as well as ensure that the ENTIRE audience has an equal opportunity at bidding for each and every fish.

Firstly. having different schemes for different donors complicates matters. For instance if u had 5 fish with a fixed price format, apart from a first come first serve basis, how wud u suggest the fish be disposed off ? What would happen to fish that were not picked up if the bidding community felt that the fish was not worth the $200 fixed price? Would it be returned to the donor? Would he be a donor if he had the opportunity to take back his fish?

Secondly, you compromise the upside potential of a fish with broad interest by having a fixed price. An auction would benefit the fund raising without a price ceiling. Why sell for $200 if the fish cud raise $1000 for charity. You might say that we can have a reserve price. While granted, it might be asked why a donor would want to place a floor on the price of his fish if he was making a donation for a worthy cause. Unless the donor decides that he would donate the reserve price and take back his fish if the auction fails to meet reserve. As I understand it, the value of a donated asset should be determined by a market price at a fund raising.

As for delivery, you can just give notice that the auction value does not include cost of shipping. Max can, if he wants to, arrange for shipping, but he should not bear the cost of shipping. Max can give early notice of cost of shipping before the auction begins so as to avoid misunderstandings once the auction is concluded. Bidders should bear the cost of shipping with prior notification.

Just a few things you need to properly iron out in the format of this fund raising excercise.

All the best and smooth sailing.

I am really glad that this donation drive is gaining momentum, not only we get koi donors, we also have hobbyist pledging to support the auction. I hope more hobbyists will notice and get involved in the drive in one way or the other.

While I agree that SKC should be the one driving this effort, I believed koifriends is also well positoned to drive it cos he already has the auction site available for immediate usage. If you need any other assistance pertaining this drive, please do not hesitate to raise it.

Re: [Snowy] Help Efforts for the earthquake victims in China [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Snowy and all Samaratians out there ,

While auctions is an option , selling off with a fixed price is another . In an auction , we can always starts off with a base price but in some cases , if the base price is deemed too high , we see no respond and if the the base price starts low to attract bidders , most of the time you get the fishes below value . Whichever way we go , it's all for a good cause .Smile We try to raise as much donations as we can from the Koi community .

I have put out my fishes on a fixed price basis at Sin5,000 and everyone out there can be assured my fish costs more than that . Max has promised to arrange a small pond to separate out this 5 - 10 fishes of mine in a separate pond for viewing after the photo taking over this wekend . Interested donors can always view the fishes prior donating . If the fish is already taken , chose another , if none appeal to the donors , they can always look up into the auction section .It's all for a good cause , not Great Singapore Sale Cool . All overseas buyers should know well that freighting cost do not come with any fishes being shipped . Whatever fishes we buy from Japan , it doesn't comes with freighting includsive . When we decide to ship our fishes back , we pay for the freighting as well , unless it's an imported fish that's sold locally and the price of fish you buy locally already had the handling / freighting costs all worked in .

Max Ng , has also decided to start a GO event on Tosai Showa to help in this drive . 50 showas for this GO event - In Aid of the China Earthquake and Myanmar Cyclone Victims , with 40 percent of the monies collected for this GO event to go to Singapore Red Cross . Max is appealing for GC Spyder and Welson ( Koifriends ) to help him in organising this . Spyder and Welson , if you are reading this , would you mind calling Max to arrange this please . I will not personally choose or pick any of the GO Showas , but have promise Max that I will take at least 5 remaining showas after the hobbyists' selection . That's as much I can do for this GO event to support this drive .
The GO Showas will remain in Max's pond for 3 months , and thereafter we will pick out the winners . Who will the judges be for this GO events ?? I Suggest All the Hobbyists who partake in this event , will vote for the Winner , 1st runner up and 2nd runner up . Vote casting is also fun and interesting . I will be most willing to sponsor the trophies if needed . Trophies will be engraved " GO Event Showa 2008 - In Aid of the China Earthquake / Myanmar Cyclone Victims ." Hope this can motivate more participants to take part in this drives . All for charity sake .

Now ..... I strongly believe raising the amount of fishes for auctions / sales / GO event is no longer an issue for this drive . What we need now is the donors . Let's try the best we can for this community . Put in our hearts .Smile

Cheers
David

Thanks to all for getting this exercise moving. Now we have the koi, we need the donors like what David had mentioned. I need everyone help to spread this around. Note that charity has no boarder, whether you are a Singaporean, Malaysian, Indonsian, we stand as one to help those that need our help..

With David's success in the recent 1st Asia Koi Show, I am very sure those koi he donated for this exercise is worth much much more than the $5000 he set. We will keep all his fish as Sale Items.

For the rest, we will continue as Auction items. The starting bidding price will be fix by the owner. I will advise them if needed. Reserve price is same as the starting price. Each bid is $50. The bidding period is set as 2 weeks.

We will fix the duration of this exercise for 3 months, to be end on the 31st August. By then, any koi not sold, not collected or no bidder in the auction will be returned to the respective owners. This is unlikely other charity drive where the prize not collected is to be donated to other charity house. We are dealing with koi here.

Any money collected will be immediately send to Singapore Red Cross. If they decided to stop the appeal for the Earthquake anytime during the 3 months timeline we set, the Cheque will still pay to them for other appeal.

I had setup a Donation website to put in all the detail of the discussion. Please visit http://www.koifriends.com/earthquake/donation.html

Thanks to Max Ng for his contribute for the GO events. I will contact him as soon as possible. If GCspyer can help, it will be even better with his experience in handling GO events.

Meantime, I will write to the adminstrator for this forum site to put this in the main page.

For those that who like to donate koi for auction, please send me the picture at welson.tan@hotmail.com

Thanks again.

Hi all,

It had been confirmed. Max is organizing a Tosai GO event with 50 Saiki Showa (Dainichi bloodline). I had seen those koi and some of them are quite high quality ranging from 25cm. Each will be sold at $680 with 3 months concrete pond. 40% of the proceeds will be donated. I am hoping to get help within the next few days and take photo of each. As the pond current has more than 80, I will try to get the best 50.

I had also seen the 5 Sansai donated by David Soon, each selling at $5000. The 5 koi are : 1 Tancho sanke - 69bu ( Rose Bloodline ) , 1 Sanke - 65bu, 1 showa - 64bu and 2 Kohaku ( 68 & 69 bu ). As when one of the kohaku came to the surface and I had the chance to see it clearly, the skin quality is very good with good beni and shiroji. All have good body and nice pattern. Although I did not see the tancho sanke closely, but understand it has thick tancho and evenly spreaded sumi. It costed David Sing$12K when he purchased it as Nisai. It had not been sent for any show yet and very good potiental. David will bowl another 5 if the above can sell off smoothly. Once I get the photo from Max, I will post them up.

The donation collection is still at $0. I need each and everyone kind heart to bid for the koi in the auction page, or purchase the high quality koi from David (handle by Max) or join the showa GO event.

We need to show the world that we in the koi community also care.

Hi Snowy,

Max had already took photo of those David's koi. He should be sending to me anytime when he has the time to do so.

For everyone, you can also visit Max and ask to see the fish. He will be able to show them to you. If you are interested, you can purchase them at $5K each with a cheque make payable to Singapore Red Cross.

Good new, John Teo had agreed to donate $500 although he is not buying any fish. The money will go to the fund with cheque make payable to the Singapore Red Cross. He too will help out in the GO event. Thanks John.

I had attached the photo of David's koi below:

Each fish is selling at $5K sing and the money will be donated to the Singapore Red Cross in aid of the china earthquake. Cheque is to make payable to Singapore Red Cross upon purchase. Viewing can be done at Max. Just tell him you are there to view the Koi donated by David and he will understand.

As mentioned in the earlier post, all the fish are donated by David Soon who koi did very well in the recent 1st Asia Koi Show in Singapore. Those kois that he donated are actually under grooming for future show. All the koi are bought at a price much higher than the $5K set.

We need your support on this donation drive to raise funds for the victims of the China Earthquake.

Please forgive us for the "non-professional" photo. The actual fish looks better.

Hi all

Mr Lee from Diamond Koi Farm will donate 5 pieces of jumbo Tosai (female) for the auction event. Those tosai are from different farm from Japan. The starting bid for those tosai will be $500. I will post the picture of those tosai when I receive them tonight. Again, the winner will collect the fish from Diamond upon the completion of the auction event with a cheque make payable to the Singapore Red Cross. I will deliver the koi within Singapore if needed. Each auction period will last 2 weeks. If there is no bidder, the auction will re-start.

Hi all, here is a status of the donation drive. Please note that the closure of the whole donation drive will be brought forward to tomorrow 23/6 at 5pm. This is because of the poor response as well as the appeals from the Singapore Red Cross had closed. Although SRC had closed the appeals, I had talked to them over the phone and they will continue to accept the donation.

To date, this donation drive raised $6580 through the auction of Diamond's Koi, Max Showa GO event and a $500 cheque from John Teo.

The auction for 5 JK's Koi will close tonight at 2359. The total bidding price currently is $3500. I hope this number can increase. Please support before the auction close. Please visit http://www.koifriends.com/eauction/eAuction.pl or call me at 96695889 if you need help to bid. You can see the koi picture at the other thread on koi auction in the same forum.

The sale of the koi sponsored by David Soon will also be closed on tomorrow 23/6 at 5pm. Currently no buyer yet. If you are interested, you can read the other thread on Koi Sale in the same forum for the koi picture and contact.

The 2 koi sponsored by Kelvin Bay and myself for auction had closed without any bidder. These koi will be returned to the owner.

Although Sentul Koi in KL had agreed to donate some koi for auction. Till this moment, I did not receive any picture from them. As such, we will not continue with it. They might be busy at their farm. Anyway, I would like to thanks them for helping out.

Regards
