NKF and QianHu KOI Can't Post

I paid a visit to both farms recently, I saw that a 15 cm Showa from NKF sells at $30. Whereas the same is sold at QianHu for $7. For $35, you can actually get a showa measuring around 30plus cm.

What is the difference between both of them other than one is jap koi, the other is local koi ? The colour are the same and seems quite alike in terms of beauty, swimming etc.

Thus I am seeking professional's advice.

Hi there! Actually I'm quite new to koi keeping also. Only about 1 1/2 years I think. Blush

Qian Hu kois are from Malaysia, Ipoh. Not very sure what are their parent breed but they normally can't grow as big as their japanese counterparts and might develope pot bellies. Once in awhile, you might come across one with nice colours though.

NKF kois are mainly locally breed using Japanese koi bloodline. That's why their price are cheaper than those imported from Japan direct. Occasionally they do bring in some kois from Japan also.

Hi Ixus ,

Back to basic , what's the size of tank and pond you intended to have or already have one . Kois prices varies from Sin$ 5.00 to Sin 50,000 easily . No point having a sin$50,000 fishes in a small fish tank , neither are you going to have a Sin$5.00 fish in a Sin$50,000 Pond . Nothing is cheap nor expensive . There's plenty of Koi Hobbyists who buys Sin$15.00 fishes as well as many buying Sin$15,000 fishes here in Singapore . It all voice down to what you might have to contain all these fishes and the purposes of keeping them . To compliment your landscape or to start a hobby .

Commitments follows after interest , and it can go a long way .Cheers and Good luck in your Koi Shopping .

Cheers
david

Nippon koi farm sell those small size ard 3 inches at $10 plus, but I also see some slightly beautiful ones at $20 plus.

Dear Koifriend, the fish you bought at 1 inch is the $5 for 9 baby koi type right ? Last time I bought 1 bag of them and got another free because they have the Buy1 get1 free promo. But all 18 die in within 1 week time. By the time I arrive home 3 has die. I was so angry then ! I think all those baby koi are sick and NKF purposely do that one !

Hi, those that you purchased are not much better than the koi from QianHu. They are more for garden ponds to make up number. I mentioned that only a very small percentage of the fries will have some potiental. The rests are either sold between $10-$30. Those that cannot grow will sell for 5 for $5 or 10 for $10 or whatever.. Since those are pre-packed, you need to ask the worker to re-pack for you before you leave to ensure the koi can make it to your house.

I bought the 1" shiro for over hundred dollar. My wife was scolding me then.. Wink. But I never regret even now. Read this link and you will understand more. http://www.koi.com.my/cgi-bin/koiforum/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_flat;post=68591;page=1;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;mh=25;

I dont have any experience on NKF kohaku or showa. Personally I dont think they are there yet..

Regards

Well, I would like to give my comments for this quote.

As NKF is a farmer himself, theyve got plently of baby kois in their ponds and they would not be so cruel to pack those "sick baby fishes" to sell to customers if the baby fishes are really that sick as what you've mentioned, they may as well throw them away and not to waste effort in packing them in bags wasting time, manpower and oxygen!

Small baby koi fries are still young and weak, . Those people who bought those fishes, I would advice that they must be to take care these baby koi if they want to buy them at such cheap price. Same like human infants right ? When small infant at their age are also weak and easily influence by environment and they also need extra care and handling, right ?

So, I do not agree of what you spank their reputation that they purposely do it ! It's a wrong comments !

Re: [Singh] NKF and QianHu KOI [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Ixus ,

I fully agree with what Mr Singh has mentioned . I have bought some small Kois from NKF before few years ago , they are still with me . They have been healthy all these while since day 1 . Normally we would pack the fishes when we are about to drive back and the shorter the duration for the fishes in the oxygnated bags the better .

NKF have been our pioneer in local Koi Breeding . They wouldn't have to resort to selling you sick fishes . Trust me Ixus , they are still the best provider of garden Kois . You will always be able to find the right fishes within your budget there .

Regards
David
