Showa For Comments Can't Post

Hi,

I've bought a few Dainichi Showa from JK farm in Dec, and would like to seek some comments from the forum regarding the growth rate and quality of these fishes.

All types of comments and advices are welcome.

These fishes were kept in JK farm for 3+ mth, Dec to Mid March (last week).

I'll be keeping them in my ~8ton pond, 4mx2mx0.9m.

First photo was taken 1 Dec, they are about 15cm.

Hi, my first comment is so red and so white.. then I think it might be the camera. My last fuji camera gave me this too... Anyway, can you comment are the fish look as good as the photo? If yes, congratulation.. The shirjio is very good.

Another thing is the shooting angle.. You must take the fish from the front at an angle of 45-60 degree. Look like fish 3 is taken from the rear which magnify the tail tube. If the tail tube is as wide as it shows on the photo, I think this one is a catch with good pattern and body.

Fish 2 has sharp month which is not my liking. Among all, I like fish 1 the most for its body..

All female? My guess is first 3 female and fish 4 is a male.

Hmm, I agreed that that all are quality fish.. At least better than the batch I bought from..

Hi Koinutx ,

Trust me , these first 4 showas are true beauties . One of these could have easily won the " Baby Champion " during the last All Japan Koi Show held in Tokyo . You should have kept these beauties in Japan and it will be worth a fortune . Truely beautiful . Good choice . If you ever want to sell them , I will be the first to bid for it .

Cheers .

Thanks for the comments.
The colour of the fish is also identical to the photo. No carmera effect. As you can compare to the fifth fish, the hi is of different tones. All using the same camera.
I've attached a all in 1 photo for comparison.

Fish 2 is one with the 'weakest' body, IMHO. I also find the head/mouth getting sharper. Same for fish 1.
Is this part of the characteristics of 'becoming' a Male fish?

Fish 3 tail tube is really that big. In fact, that big fat tail tube make the tail fan looks small, and it was like 'stunted' in the Dec pic.

Can you share more on your guessing?
I was thinking fish 1 & 2 more likely to be male, (due to the sharper mouth),
3, 4, 5 are female, based on body curve. (btw, is a wider mouth more likely to be female?Wink)

Any comments on fish 5? Looks like this is 1 piece that is of a much lower quality. Anyway, I bought it at a very much cheaper price...Tongue

errr....I think if I can win something locally, I'll be more than happy!Blush
anyway, some of the fish from the same batch had won in the S'pore young koi show.
I hope I can maintain their beauty in my pond, n my is a New pond (1mth+), this makes me worry! They were previously kept in JK Farm for the past 3 months.

Hi, Yes, I will have to see the fish to see the different in the color. Wink

Anyway, I like fish with thick tail tube as they look very very strong, as such my favor is still no 3.

I can assess male or female quite accurately for fish over 30cm. I can help you if needed.

Regards

Meanwhile, 2 of them is having Type 1 and 2 of them having type 2 anal shape.
All of them have smooth pectoral fins.Cool

Any indication of male or female from these shapes?

Type 2 looks like female. Type 1 is koi too young to judge but more chance to male.

S1 and S2 are type 1.
S3, S4 and S5 are type 2.

Any other characteristics can be use to 'guess' the sex?Tongue

Hi Folks,

After a whole season of active purchase, I need to decide which are the few pieces that I can keep. And so far, my purchases are quite 'successful' at this moment (if you see some of my postings in the Koi appreciation pages), and I can only keep 50% of them, instead of crowding all of them in my small pond, and let all Suffered!

I'll need to let go some of them, so that the balances fish have good space to grow.

This batch of Dainichi Showa are about 40cm +/- now and they are born May/Jun 06. No birth Certificate.
Let me know if you are interested. sms me at 9739 1191.
btw, these are good fishes and dun expect a cheap lelong sale.Tongue
