Showa GO Event - In Aid of the China Earthquake and Myanmar Cyclone Victims Can't Post

Hi all,

To support the donation drive in http://www.koi.com.my/cgi-bin/koiforum/gforum.cgi?post=106501;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread, Max will organize a Showa GO Event with 50 Saiki Showa Tosai. 40% of the collection will be donated to the Singapore Red Cross to help the victims due to the China Earthquake and Myanmar Cyclone. The fish selected will stay in Max's concrete pond for 3 months. Each fish will be sold at $680 which mean if all are sold, $13600 will be donated.

I had personally seen those showa this afternoon. It should be around 25cm or bigger. Some are quite good quality. Out of the pond of 80 showa, I will try to get the best 50 for this exercise. let target to do the selection on the 15th June and I will get it confirm as soon as possible.

Please help to pass this information around so that we can successfully clear the 50 piece and gather enough funds for the charity. Any Koi club member reading this, please help to pass this to your club member. We need your support as well.

Meantime, I need GCsyder expertise in organising this GO event.

Also, I need to have a show of hand to see the support level. Please reply onto this post.

Hi Welson ,

Having seen those GO Showas , I must say it's a different stroke from most of the past GO events . Most of these tategois have beautiful body structure and beni . Sumi is ever changing for Showas , but these tategois seem to have deep sumi . Certainly a much better lot of tosais I've seen over the last few years . Max told me it's hardly enough to even cover his costs , but for Charity sake , he's most willing to bowl out these 50 showas or even the whole lot if the respond is good .

Welson , I will take 5 of these Showas but it will be unfair for me to be choosing first as I've personally seen the whole lot last weekend . I will take 5 of these tategois after all the selection is completed by all participants / donors to this course ... I will duly issue my cheque when the collection time comes .

Hope this will kick start this GO event .Smile

Cheers and good luck .

Hi all, thanks for committing to the GO even before seeing the fish. I had arranged with Max tomorrow at 2pm to take photo of the 50 showa. Look out for it in this post. To date, we had commitment from

1. David Soon (5 pcs from the unselected lot)
2. Carpa Diem
3. Koinutx
4. Jason Tan (2)

I had to apologise for not taking the lead to commit on the purchase. It is not because of the quality of the showa. As I am not working at the moment, I can only contribute my efforts.

I need more support on this event so that we can help the victims of the natural disasters. Please help to let your friends know about the donation events so that we can raise more money.

Hi all,

Together with Poh Beng and Max's worker, we managed to take photo for the 50 showa this afternoon. I am still in the mid of editing to ensure all picture have the same size and same angle. No photo-shop work will be done on the photo to ensure that the koi looks as it is.

Personally, I am impressed with the sumi and shiroji quality. The body for same are very good. Also, most of them have good pattern (I chose them while Max was away Tongue). Anyway, those are my personal comment. You should see the photo yourself or see the fish in Max to judge for yourself. The rule for all GO event still stand. That is no bowling of koi allow.

I had downloaded the picture onto a webpage. Please go http://www.koifriends.com/earthquake/Maxgo.html to see all the fish in high quality picture.

The picture below is only for summary on how the fish look like. Please dont judge the quality from here.

Re: [koifriends] Showa GO Event - In Aid of the China Earthquake and Myanmar Cyclone Victims [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi all, to date, we have the following hobbyists committing to the GO.

1. David Soon (5 pcs from the unselected lot)
2. Carpa Diem
3. Koinutx
4. Jason Tan (2)
5. Redwhitewine

I need more participants so that we can raise more funds for the vicitms. Remember 40% of the proceeds will be donated. As such, if we can take up all the fishes, we will be able to collect $13.6K Sing from this event.

Now with the picture available, I hope more will start to join. Also, if you want to see the fish, you can visit Max over the weekend to see them as well as David's fish. Ask Max for the fish and he should be able to show them to you.

Since the response is slow, I will discuss with Max to move the selection date to 22nd June 2008 so that we can have more participants.

Please help to spread this events to your friends well. I had put up an advertisement in tomorrow paper.

The response to this is slow. Also, no one has started the bidding for the auction. Those fish donated by Diamond is bidding much below the price if you walk into the farm. Furthermore, they are confirmed female. Please help to make this donation exercise a success.

Appeal to all Koi Hobbyist. This is the time we as Koi community stand together and show the world we too care. I need each and everyone supports. Please pass this message around your koi friends.

Hi all,

The response to this GO event is as cold as the other 2 charity events, namely the koi sale and the koi auction.

To date, we only have commitment for 11 Koi from the following :

1. David Soon (5 pcs from the unselected lot)
2. Carpa Diem
3. Koinutx
4. Jason Tan (2)
5. Redwhitewine
6. lovesanke

Please show your support.

You can view the koi at http://www.koifriends.com/earthquake/Maxgo.html. Click on the picture to enlarge and you can see the quality better. You can also visit Max to see the real fish. I am proposing the GO event to be held on the 22nd at 2pm. I had yet to discuss this with Max. Will do so when I am back from Malacca this weekend.

Personally, I witnessed the koi and most of them have very good shiroji. The sumi is of those shinning type. The hi is average but I saw many showa with dainichi bloodline has similar type of hi. The body for most of them look promising to be big fish type.

Re: [koifriends] Showa GO Event - In Aid of the China Earthquake and Myanmar Cyclone Victims [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi all

I had confirmed with Max that the Showa GO Event - In Aid of the China Earthquake and Myanmar Cyclone Victims will be held on

Sunday 22nd June 2008 at 2pm to 5pm

The location is

Max Koi Farm
251 Neo Tiew Cresent
Singapore 718835
Tel : 65-6862 6363

The 50 koi will be placed in a few tanks for easy viewing and selection. For the 1st 30min, it will be registration time. Those committed to purchase (including those that committed here) will get the priority to select. No lucky draw. Those registered early will have the highest priority and so on. That is to say Carpa Diew (provided he turn up or ask a proxy to help) will go first since he is the second to commit. Note that David Soon although the first to commit, he had mentioned that he will select from the remaining. So the list go like this..

1. Carpa Diem
2. Koinutx
3. Jason Tan (2)
4. Redwhitewine
5. lovesanke
6.
7.

The selection will start at 2.30pm sharp. With this system, anyone can register at anytime during the event although I hope many will come forward and register now. This will also allow more fish to be sold during the event so that we can raise more funds for the victims. 40% of the proceeds from the sale during this event will be donated to the Singapore Red Cross. Those koi that are not sold during this event will go back to Max.

For those that are interested but cannot make it on Sunday, you can reply to this thread to ask me to act for you. You can then sms me with your selection list and I will select for you according to your list. You can also call Max directly.

Please help to spread this new to all you koi friends.

The picture of the koi are available at http://www.koifriends.com/earthquake/Maxgo.html

Re: [koifriends] Showa GO Event - In Aid of the China Earthquake and Myanmar Cyclone Victims [In reply to] Can't Post

In response to the check and balance to ensure the proceeds are correctly channel to the charity, here is what we will do:

Since the donation is not 100%, the money will have to be paid to Max instead. As mentioned, 40% of the proceeds from the sale during the event will go to the charity. That mean, during the 3 hours from 2 to 5pm, all the sale will be registered with the counter setup. Sale after 5pm will not be included unless Max wants to donate himself.

So at the end of the event, from the registration, we will be able to know how many piece of koi had been sold. Based on the number, we can calculate the amount of money Max will have to issue to Singapore Red Cross. All the sale will also be mentioned in this forum. I will find a white board and put it at the counter to indicate how many koi have been taken. This will allow transparency.

I will get the cheque from Max and bring to Singapore Red Cross. I can scan the receipt and post them here for everyone to verify too.

For those who pay through cheque, you can also write 2 cheques (1 to Max for $408 and 1 to Singapore Red Cross Society for $272).

If you have other better suggestion to make it more transparent, please reply onto this forum.

Re: [koifriends] Showa GO Event - In Aid of the China Earthquake and Myanmar Cyclone Victims [In reply to] Can't Post

To heat up the GO event and to help those that are new to GO events, I will base on my personal view to propose a few koi that I will choose. Note that I wouldn't be buying because I am not working at the moment. I need to save.

Here it goes (not commenting on male or female as I am not expert. Also, the liking of the koi is not in sequence.)

1. No 32. The strong point is the white is super. In fact, the white for the whole batch is very good. This should be a kinda showa with less sumi. The dark big patch of sumi on should indicated its sumi quality. The slight black on the fin indicated the motogru should come. Same black on the mouth indicated the mouth pattern. Only concern is how the sumi will appear on the right side. As for the size, although it is one of the smallest, with a big head and mouth, it should grow. And the 3 months free stay in Max should enhance the growth.

2. No 27. This one has the best kohaku pattern of the whole lot. But pattern is subjective. At least for this one, the hi is very balance on both side of the body. From the hidden sumi, the black should fill the koi nicely. But you must expect to wait for the sumi to come in. The white as mentioned, is good. With a long body, the koi should grow. Only concern is the head is not as big as I would like.

3. No 11. No doubt this is the biggest koi in the batch at 37cm, already bigger than the small one by 10cm. It is definitely a tranditional showa with well balance hi and sumi. The combination of the hi, sumi and white give this koi a very nice pattern. Although there are some sumi dots that make it look abit dirty, but they should subside.

4. No 22. The plus point is the white. I love it. The pattern on the head is very unique. The sumi is filling up the koi nicely. Once the body open up and koi will look gorgeous.

5. No 46. With a flowery hi and limited sumi, this is definitely a good kinda showa. It might appear a lot dirty now but once the sumi started to appear with the hi thicken, this is a koi to be watched. With the long and strong body, this koi can grow.

6. No 43. This is a koi you can bring to show tomorrow. With the traditional showa pattern, this koi looks great now and ready for show. Just need to pump up the body.

7. No 41. Another nice kinda showa where the white will be more than the sumi and hi. With the super white, you just need to watch for the sumi to appear. The longthy body with strong tail tube is an indication that this koi will be big.

I will continue later.. There are a couple more that I would put them in my shopping list only if..

8. No 4: For this koi, if you remove the sumi, you will see a nice Kohaku pattern for big koi. When the koi put on girth, the white will be obvious and will look very good. The sumi quality is high quality too although a bit too much on the head. But this give this koi the firece factor which is what we want from a traditional showa. Body wise, this is what I normally choose for a tosai around 30cm with a oval shape. The weak point is the few scale of weak hi at the shoulder.

9. No 5: This is an eye catching koi with nice pattern. The motogru will form as there is a slight black on the left fin. Give it some time and the sumi on the head will come and give it the showa look. The overwheling sumi on the centre will subside as well as it grow. From another photo, the hi and sumi do not wrap all the way to the side. This when the koi put on girth, more white will form. With the high quality white, the koi is one to watch.

Hi David,

indeed a very good deed on your parts, can you consider to organise it one more time for myammar/birma earth quake victim as well. I am actively trying to support kokoro non-profit org, setup by Jimbo-san. I was there myself to see how he took orphanage children only to live with him and the wife and train them to play tennis in order to give them some "Goal and Hopes" instead of ended up in the jail/pros (some become junior champion and competing in the circuit). Jimbo-san is not a tennis coach by profession, however, he read the tennis book and started to teach them. it works wonder..

Please see the website: http://town1.sakura.ne.jp/english/index.htm (some details in japanese).

He was a businessman in Japan, because of financial crisis, he almost gave up living, however, the wife was a volunteer in myammar and encouraged him to visit yangon, once he was there, the rest is history. with US$10 donation, he will be able to give the students the books, pencil etc to write for 1 year.

i dont want to make this forum becomes NKf, however, if if some of you kind enough to donate directly, pls do:
