awhile back.

try reading some of the old posts. it was kinda sad.

mikoi & keemer,

i think it has to do with the quality of post on this forum. After so many handphone ad; ppl asking what kind of koi is theirs, which they can find out by searching the forum, whether their koi can become jumbo etc i think it becomes tiring.

i dun think our enthusiasm is dampened by the recent koi show.

HI all

Try getting one of the Koi farms here to cater an afternoon visit for all koi hobbyists , with a little spread of snacks and short tour around the koi farms to bring back the spirit of this circle . Believe most koi farms would also welcome this idea . Probably fix a date for each of the koi farm to allow visitation and gathering of koi hobbyists , where all the hobbyists can all meet and share more about this hobby than just writing over the forum . We have quite a few good koi farms here in Singapore strongly believe that they will definitely support this idea . Let's wait for some responds and probably this circle of hobbyists will grow in no time again . Cheers

David

Hi All

The community has become so quiet due to a few reasons:

I. No plans from our koi club to help promote the hobby. To make matter worse, the koi show was full of doubts uncleared.
II. No activity organised for koi friends from farms in Singapore.
III. A few of the active forum guys has seen switched camp to joint the sentul park koi forum which has been actively promoting the hobby to the regional koi fans. Go take a look at the number of events they run and you will know why.

Re: [paulngp] Where is EVERYBODY?!! [In reply to] Can't Post

paulngp,

Thanks for the feedback on the current situation. It is a shame though that many has migrated to the sentul forum as fom what i have noticed, the forum mainly focuses on holding event for their benefits(profits), unlike what was done here previously where all farms had a fair share of the events organized.Unimpressed But at least it is always an avenue for us all to go to if looking for these activities.

Personally i enjoyed the many feedbacks from our Sg seniors on their "trial n errors" onto what to expect from kois from different farms and bloodlines. These are the things that atracts and interest people. Oh well!!!Crazy

Anyways to the rest of the community still here,

It was really good to hear your voices and how much you've all missed the Sg forum. Glad to know i'm not the only one.Wink Cheers

Hi Paul, many of us are still around, monitoring this forum occasionally. Whether it is in Sentul forum, Koi-bito forum or over here, as long as there are good discussion, you will find me. I am sure many of the senior members will contribute too.

Chewed had voiced it correctly. The quality of the discussion in this forum had dropped.

Welson,

Nothing like a good growout event to bring back interest. I took a risk and bought a Omosako Musashi offspring showa (Dainichi male sire) in Dec -- it is growing very well and has good body conformation.

I emailed Max last week to do a growout event of Omosaka Musashi showas. As it has yet made a name for itself, we may be able to get good pieces at affordable prices. Can someone down in Spore follow up with Max? I will email him again.

Hopefully, this will liven things up.

Cheers,
Jeff

Yes, I support the idea. In fact, I brought up this in Sentul forum on this too. But before we take action, can we have a look on how the showa had turned out. A photo will definitely cause more discussion on this topic.

Re: [wtansk] Where is EVERYBODY?!! [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi All,

I'm new to the forum and local koi scene.
Here is my view on the local situation:

Our koi market is 'small', especially for those premium koi clients. Hence, Koi dealers need to stay on very 'competitive' mood to maintain their clients. Any other non-profit generating activities will be of a lesser priority to them. However, I believed they are still supporting if there are Good Organisers around, as seen in many years back, whereby Koi Farms will donate koi for charity auction during Annual Koi Show.

On Grow-out event, many local farms may not have the resources to do it. In fact most of the farms are managed by 2-3 person only.

I would suggest that if there are keen interests from hobbyists, we can organised the event on a 'private' nature. The grow-out will be at own tank/pond (lower cost) or share cost to rent a pond.

What we need is to get information from farms on when is their shipment. I believed many hobbyists have good contact with farms to know what type of quality, breed and price of the shipment is coming in.
(of course the selected farm will be lucky to get all the profit, we can definitely negotiate for discount!)

We will buy (if we like) and take photo of it. We will do updates ourselves, and have the discussion continued in forum. The final judging day will be through a common meeting place/farm or just through photo.

Key objective is involved in the hobby and own a Good Koi. I dun think anyone is more keen in any prizes that come with the growout.

These are just my 0.02 cents.

Smile

Hi,

Home Growout is a good idea, but based on past events, many participants come from Asean neighboring countries eg Brunei, Malaysia and Indonesia. I am from Malaysia and participated in past growouts, learning a lot from our Spore sifus in the process. A home growout will discourage participation from the region.

I'm bowling up my kois this Sunday and will post a pic of the Musashi Offspring Showa. Max has replied to say that he will arrange something.

Best Regards,
Jeff

Welson,

I managed to net the Musashi showa today -- 46cm, hope you like it. She slimmed down a bit as I stopped feeding for a week to deal with green water.

Are musashi offsprng showas good enough for Growout Event? May need you to help negotiate with Max - he said he will talk to Omosako.

Cheers,
Jeff

Jeff, thanks for sharing the musashi offsprng showa. If you take away the hi, this one looks like a good musashi offspring shiro with good sumi and shiroji. I am not too proud of the hi quality, but that should thicken as it grow. Also, I would prefer a longer body shape at 46cm for jumbo grow.

By the way, I think I missed the musashi offsprng showas talk. Did Omosako-san talk on this last sunday?

Hi Welson,

Omosako san mentioned he trained at Dainichi, and that showas are a personal favorite. He said they are getting some good results with musashi offspring showas. Luke mentioned to a friend that last year's spawning were sold out, and we will have to wait for this year's spawning to get some.

By the way, how's your maruboshi? I bought a 33cm sister koi and put it through the SPKC mud pond program last year. See pic -- Luke said he deserved a bonus as she grew well into a nice 54cm kohaku.

How do you like my cheap RM50 leftover hoshikin kohaku? She grew from 20cm in June 06 to 54cm today!

Cheers,
Jeff

If I have a chance to try the musashi offsprng showas, i will. Imagine the hi tighten and become real red and thick with the musashi quality sumi and white, it will be a watcher..

Your maruboshi looks good except for the secondary hi at the tail. My maruboshi is much bigger with plenty of egg. Will take a photo after she recover. She is now in hospital tank in JC's house.

The hoshikin is very worth for money. Except for the pattern, it is putting those expensive one to shame. I too bought one last year at 10cm and it should be close to 50cm now. The hi is not as good for mine.

Hi friends, how is the fiasco finished? Did the judges give their assesments or alike and whether Singapore will have another Show this year?

I plan to buy few kois from my friend in Singapore (who will be living abroad) and am planning to enter that koi at any coming Shows in the city before bring them back to my home pond in Jakarta.

Thanks guys.
cheers

SPKC mentioned that all Musashi showas from last year's spawning were sold out, and hobbyists will have to wait for this year's spawning. I heard Omosako is preparing a few promising pieces for the Japan Wakagoi show. If they win prizes, they will cost a lot more.

I'll try Max again to see if he has any feedback from Japan.

Best,
Jeff
