about 45 mins should be right, assuming you already know the way and don't waste minutes looking for it. are you driving there yourself? otherwise Max is usually kind enough to get his assistant to drive an overseas customer off to the airport. he's a gent.

Re: [aragorn] how far [In reply to] Can't Post

well i don't know if famous is the correct term cause the koi circle is rather small esp in a country as small as singapore. but Max is definitely a prominent player in koi supply, and he's the authorized dealer for the area for Nexus products.
taking a taxi is a bit tricky cause it's way off town (singapore standard wise) and in a rather remote area, the cabbie may need to make a few phone calls before he finds the place. what i used to do is book a cab for like SGD25/hour and just ask him to wait for me while i get my koi stuff in the neo teow area before i head off to the airport. but if i were you i'd check with Max if it's convenient to be dropped off at the airport by his staff. if you spend a lot at his premises i think it'd be fair, it'd save you a lot of time from trying to call for a cab from his place (forget trying to hail one off the street there, it'd take you days Laugh). Knowing Max, he'd probably offer it himself anyway.

where are you from anyway, Mike? I'm from Indonesia, used to live in SPore so i know the koi dealers there. Happy shopping.

thanks for the info and link!
im from the Philippines, but he's the closest supplier of nexus products. so one of these months, i might take a look at his place and then determine how to ship the equipment.

Re: [aragorn] how far [In reply to] Can't Post

has anybody transacted business with them already? because the items im going to buy is practically equivalent to the price of a car. so, sending the money before the products are shipped is kinda out of my dictionary. Laugh

hmm ...

Re: [aragorn] how far [In reply to] Can't Post

Mike
my friend and i spent a few thousand dollars on koi from him. this is just a personal opinion, but Max's probably as secure as they come. Once my friend didn't bring enough cash, bought kois about S$8000 worth i recall, Max asked him to just take the fish first and wire the money over after he's back in Jakarta. we were a bit surprised cause it was the first time we bought anything from him.
another time we went to a place nearby his to buy ranchu, Max dropped us off. we blew our budget as usual (always happens when you go fish hunting, it seems) the guy wouldn't take a cheque so Max offered to spot us the cash (i think we were short a few thousand). in the end we found out the guy accepted NETS (a kind of bankcard in spore) which i had, so we didn't need the cash, but still i was a bit taken by how casual Max is with helping out an overseas guy (who could easily disappear hahaha) even though he had met us only a couple of times. I should say, we have friends who had already been buying from him regularly so that may have played a part in his confidence with us.

anyway, i've dealt with him only a couple of times, but based on my limited knowledge i only have good things to say about Max as you may have noticed, and my experience is very much in line with my other friends who've also done business with him. only good things i've heard.

of course when it comes down to it, any testimony given to you here by me or anyone else who knows Max ain't going to be worth a cent in the event you do encounter any problem (even if it may come as a shock to people like me if you did). i'm sure you don't need me to tell you that. but having seen how Max operates, personally i'm pretty sure you'll have a good buying experience with him.

p/s: there's another guy who used to be very active posting here under the handle patrick123. Patrick bought an Answer from Max and had some problem with the equipment. If you really want to seek other forum members' experience with Max, you might want to check with Patrick how his was. He should be able to give an even more objective view on Max and how Max addressed his equipment problem. while it was all just roses for me! Sly

cheers and good luck!

nexus? i saw the equipment during the koi show, quite impressive, but decided its one of those things i didn't need. Why? because you still have to maintain it like any tradititonal filter, and not any less.

thanks applemuncher ... thats right, i havent seen it personally ... ill probably make a decision when i get there.
but the primary reason i want it is to save on space. i kinda like the vortex with biofilter in one idea.

mike, when you've taken a look, i like to know if you have decided to buy or not. I can tell you its an impressive piece of art this filter, but i also know some have bought it and chucked it, so be warned! :)
