recent tap water parameter Can't Post

Hi guys,

I've tested my tap water recently due to being appear a little cloudy than usual. A friend of mine an arowana hobbyist told me that he and his friends fishes all got cloudy eyes recently. Their tank water also appeared milky. Unimpressed They suspect that PUB have added some chemical into our tap water due to recent outbreak of dengue fever. Crazy
My tap water show PH 7 down from PH 7.6 NH3 is normal at 0 but nitrite have went up from 0 to 0.8ppm.
Does any of you guys notice anything unusual about your tap water and pond water parameter? Crazy

Thanks
Koh

Not from your part of the world I can't respond in a way that is helpful, but I have a question. What is your water source? Some aquifers have naturally high Nitrite or Nitrate from minerals. If so any little glitch in the water treatment plant can really mess things up.

Re: [sankekoromo] recent tap water parameter [In reply to] Can't Post

koh,

i'm experiencing the same thing too. I was still wondering why my water quality has deteorated the last few days. My kois appetite has been bad the last few days. All of them not too comfortable with the water.

i'll be turning off my constant drip for a few days to see if there's any improvement.

Anyone else?

Hi Derrick,

Even this web-site is going crazy recently. Always give me page error when I tried to log in. Unimpressed
I hope PUB did not add more chloramine than normally would in our tap water cos I have not measure the amount of chlorine and chloramine yet. I suspect some chemicals in the water is killing anaerobic bacteria. Crazy
Anybody have any clue or having the same water issue recently?

Thanks
Koh

Koh,

my kois are only eating half of what they normally does, with all the cloudy water. i've added anti-chlorine/chloramine as a precaution.

Hey guys, hope the water problem clears up soon but I have a favor to ask.
A new member from your part of the world could use your help in the Pond water quality and filtration forum. Name is safendoulis and the thread is about Midges in his filter. I told him what I could, but since you are his neighbors (not to mention much more experienced than me) I thought you could be much better help than I can offer. His contractor really screwed things up by putting in a substandard underbed gravel system and stocking it fully with mature koi before getting the bio going.
BTW, the page faults and error messages seem to have been system wide so there must've been some sort of server problems. Khoo must've gotten it fixed because things seem to be back up to speed.

Hi Derrick,

My koi is still eating well as usual but I've cut down on the nos. of time I feed them cos nitrite will go to 0.1ppm if given 3X. Also reduce the daily drip by half from 5%.
Water have been cloudy for a week now which makes me suspect that some chemicals in our tap water is killing the aerobic bacterial.

Thanks
Koh

koh,

i agree with you, something in tap is killing the bacteria in the pond. i've not seen my water deteorate like this. so far, i'm feeding less, added some more bacteria into the filer chambers, hoping to stabilise everything.

Derrick,

Hope this is just a temporary measure by the PUB.
I did not add any bacterial cos think its better for the new aerobic bacterial developing(if any) to adjust itself to the change. I'm using "Nature will find its own way" method. Smile

Thanks
Koh

Hi GCSpyder,

Glad to hear water in your area are o.k. Smile Fine filtering of tap water before dripping into our pond certainly would help.

koh,

the cloudiness cleared up since yesterday. pH a little on the low side, nitrite is 0 ppm as i've cut down to feeding only once a day.

However, the stuff my protein skimmer is throwing out is different from previously. Now it's greenish in colour instead of the yellowish DOC stuff that i use to have.

Hi Guys.....

think its a little late but thought I add that the water was indeed a little off the mark last couple of weeks....
At first I the water quality was a bit blur was due to my over feeding or the rain....
But its improved a lot this week.

Cheers Smile

PS:
Yeah.... good idea..... Think its time for another pond visit.....
The singapore forum is getting a bit quiet lately..... Tongue

Hi Chewed and others,

There is always the option of going to visit our rental ponds at Diamond which was suggested by wtansk. Perhaps we can time a visit during a scheduled measuring exercise?

Cheers..

Hi Chewed,

I was thinking perhaps Jan2006 but we should also check with JC and wtansk if they have any plans to do similar. Don't want to be presumptious but can change my schedule to Dec2005 if need be. Alamak, what is there to see, so many males!

Cheers..
