Glad to see you reply back and happy that there is a koi keeper on this forum near me.
There is a great koi dealer near you. Chuck Jones. Ever heard of him? His place is just north of Dahlonega on HWY60. If you haven't, you should go just for the experience.

All of my koi come from him.

Yep, we have been to wet pets. This year, I think in May we went there. He is great, very helpful. Years ago we sold him a garden bench for his yard. We have known them for years. In Ellijay Ga. there is another place, Whitepath. David is very good also. We spent something around $300 there, this year alone. We purchased about 100 little ones from him for $100. We have a mud pond and wanted to grow some out in the pond. They are doubled in size now. We purchased some great looking Sushui, don't know what we will do with them all, but we call them little parrannas, as they come up to eat like a herd of parrannas. Well off and running, so glad to see someone here from Ga. Take care. I will let you know how our pond, the mud one holds up. I am worried about the dry season. We do have a well, so no problem adding water to the pond. Take care. LyndaWink

Fun stuff there in the mudpond. I am raising a batch of kohaku this year. I have about 400 fry so I know what you mean. I posted a vid of the little guys in teh koi appreciation section.

Stay in touch on how they come out. I would like to see them sometime. Maybe we could trade.

Re: [utsuri] Anyone from Georgia, Near NC [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi again, I would love to see your pond. I noticed with our mud pond and our lined pond the fish do grow differently. The ones in the lined pond are large, but those little ones in the mud pond are still larger. I put a few in the lined pond and of course most of them in the mud pond. Still having a hard time with the muddy water. Gypsum works, but with all the rain we had, we stopped using it. Our pond is holding water, so far.
I would love to see your fish. We definitely could trade. Sushi, are cool looking fish. They have blue, grey, white, orange and black. Sometimes you look at the fish and their color is baby blue. Wild looking.
We thought we where going to have some eggs from a Matsuba, oh well, nothing happened. We have some nice looking fish. Oh that Matsuba we have, I hoped she would have eggs. She has a very unusual nose or snout. The guy in Dahlonaga, we where talking about how odd the shape is. He said we have an unusual fish, that sometimes Koi have a nose like our fish has (not as pointy, but flatter rounder). He said that it isn't defective, but very desireable, so we hoped for eggs. Cool
We guess we will have to find a net, forget the nets name. Kind of like a cast net to get these koi out of the pond, eventually we will have to. How are you going to get them out of your mud pond??
So lets trade whenever yours are ready, let me know. I would love to trade. Take care Lynda

Mud ponds will let your fish grow faster. There are all kinds of creatures living in the mud that koi love to dig for. That really helps them to grow.
The type of net you need to use is called a drag net. I have done some research on this and US netting is the place to go. They are out of California.

Copy this link into your web brower. It is a short vid of my fry from 6/13/06. They are just starting to show the little kohaku patterns.

http://media.putfile.com/koifry6_13_06

They will be ready to move come September or October. I do have a Doitsu Kujaku I need to place. He is pretty good size. About 16 inches.

I will post some pics here soon of both him and my pond. I am having trouble with the size of the files for posting here but will try to get something up.

Hi there
Your Doistu shouldn't be that hard to place. That sounds like a nice size fish. We have at least three that are about that size. A Sanke and the Matsuba. Also have two others that are larger. Ours are starting to show their colors. Some are a good 5 inches now. They should be ready around the same time, Sept. The way they are growing, it is amazing. They sure do love the mud and the junk in the mud. I will check the net stuff out. Thanks for the info. We had been wondering where we would find a net. Thanks again, LyndaSmile

Hi there, glad to meet some of us from Georgia. We are in Union County up north from you. You are not that far from us, about 125 miles. So tell me of your pond. We now have two. This is an addiction. We have a mud pond, and by mud I really mean mud. Been fighting the dirty water. Also a lined pond. We have about 100 koi in the mud pond and they are growing and growing. The other pond has our larger koi in it. They are fun to watch. Ours are so spoiled. They of course know when you are near them, they all come up to eat. Even if we just fed them. So tell me about your pond. Lynda

Re: [femme_artist51] Anyone from Georgia, Near NC [In reply to] Can't Post

Wow it sounds like you pretty much have a dream set up, and oh so many Koi. I'm jealous. LOL
Well I inherited my pond when we bought our home a little over 2.5 years ago. It's about 3000 gallons and we currently have to large koi one of which is a white butterfly and 5 small koi. That's not much for the size pond I have so I am trying to adopt a few more. Maybe some reproductively mature ones.
I have a fake dock with an aligator spitter on it which helps with aeration, I have lillies, and water hyacinths, a some anarchis. My filtration is DIY modeled after the skippy style filter but I used a very large composite flower pot and I use a 5 gallon with a pool vac leaf back for prefiltration. There is also a fountain/spring that flows back into the pond that really adds aeration. All of these are connected, creatively plumbed to a single pump. My water quality is very good and clear. Just cleaned the filter yesterday. I have a net over it now to prevent unwanted visitors and right next to my pond is my small vegetable garden. I have some pics I'll attach. You are so right this is an addiction. I really wish I had room to expand or build another pond. I am thinking about getting an aquarium to raise small koi frys until they are 3-4 inches and then place them in the pond. I'm glad to find a group from my area too. I searched all over yahoo even created a yahoo group but only a couple members so far. So how big are your ponds and what kind of plants do you have. You probably can't count how many types of Koi you have, but If I had that many I won't even mind. LOL

HI Utsuri,

That would be great. I would love some more koi to add to the pond. Either I could come by sometime to pick them up or we could meet somewhere. You let me know what works best for you. About what size are they? I'm getting giddy already.

I would be interested in each of the four but I won't be greedy since Lynda wants also. I would be happy to adopt the:16 to 18 inch Doitsu Kujaku (male) and the a 12 inch gin rin cha goi (male); if no one wants the other two I'll adopt them as well.

Hi Phanso,

I kind of offered that Kujaku to Lynda first. So lets let her pass on it before he is yours. I don't know of any other way to do it. That would be fair anyway. Send me an email and I will reply to I with pics of these koi. I see you pm'd your number. I might just use that. Let's see what Lynda want sto do with the kujaku first.
