FILTERS Can't Post

HAVE A NEW POND AND ITS 22FT L 15FT W AND 5.5 FT D
MY FILTERS ARE 3 55GAL BARRELS WITH A 2IN INPUT AT THE TOP AND A 2IN DISCHARGE AT THE BOTTOM THAT FLOWS INTO A SMALL STREAM. THE BARRELS ARE FILLED WITH A MILKCREAT THEN MESH BAG WITH LAVA ROCK AND THE MESH BAG WITH STRAW. SO I GUESS I AM WONDERING IF THIS IS A GOOD WAY TO FILTER MY POND AND IF THIS IS ENOUGH FILTERS

give it a a week or two to see what happens, but probably, the filters wont be enough, have you considered a Bead filter, they work so well at filtering debirs, and growing biological bacteria. They are Bio-mechanical filters. check it out here.

good luck

Please post this in the
"pond construction" section of this forum.

1.What kind of straw is in those filters?
2.Is it barley straw?
3.Are they located in the upper or lower sections of the filter?
4.Why are you using straw? To combat an algal bloom?
5. The filters sound like trickle towers:
(i) are each barrels being fed separately? or
(ii) are they created to be a prefilter, biofilter combinations like the many seen online?

We would appreciate photos or links to where you obtained the ideas from to gather more information on your pond. A new pond will go through the pea soup algal bloom in the first few weeks. I suggest slowly adding fish a few times each week as the good bacteria in the filter take a slower time to be created. Don't add too many fish and you'll find you may not need upgrades in the filters, if you do, then you get the idea :)

Good luck!
