Hello I'm in NM and want to get some koi for my stock tank and figured I'd come and ask a few q's, and see if anyone lived close. I am really wanting to get a few koi fish but don't know much about them or if they'll survive here or not, so I thought I'd search a place on the net out and try to find info on them. First our summer night temps here are in the 50's and daytime is about 90's mid summer. Winter we normally have temps in the teens at night and maybe 30's, there have been days though where with the wind chill we've been below zero. We have a steel fiberglass lined stock resivior beside our barn that I'm wanting to stock with the fish. It does have moss and water bugs and varios bug larvea in it usually, and the water is generally added to it every couple of days or at least once a week depending on the time of year and number of cattle and horses drinking off of it. Do you think that a koi could live in conditions like this year round? Would I have to feed them? Will they eat bugs and larvea like misquito larvea? Any other important info I need? I also had a lady in wal-mart tell me if I get them ver 6 inches they'll survive in anything but under that length and it's a gamble? Is this true?
