I live on Long Island, work on LI and my sister is in Liberty, NY. She keeps asking me to come up and build her a pond. I'm really not able to do that and she can do it for herself after all. She's the one who's married. MY pond is almost 7'deep so the fish are quite safe out there all winter.

I live in Uniondale. Have a wonderful pond, stream, waterfall, with bottom drain, bubblebead and vortex filtration, UV, about 10,000 gallons, 6 1/2 ft. deep. I keep only koi. I belong to the Mid-Atlantic Koi Club here on LI and you can get a lot of help and info from the club. Pt. Jeff is a nice area, nicer than Uniondale. Have you had a pond before? This is my 4th pond, had it built by Suburban Water Gardens in Dix Hills. They do fantastic work.

I am familiar with places on Long Island, which is a hike from White Plains, but Suburban Water Gardens and River Roads are right off the LIE if you came down this way. Suburban has imported Japanese Koi as well as domestics, and River Roads only has domestic koi. Upstate, the one to try would be Sugarloaf Koi Farm, Matt & Katie Corino.

Well, what's stopping ya? We hold meetings at Hicks Nursery, Westbury, during winter months and will next meet on the 23rd. After that, we will be moving around, holding meetings at people's homes. June 11 will be in Lynbrook. July 15 is our pond tour! But we pond owners are thick as thieves here on LI. Mine is 6,000-gallons with way too many fish. In fact, I am selling and moving to Florida at the end of this year so there are lots of fish that have to be placed in new homes.

I live in Yaphank and have a small 6' x 7' 1000 gallon pond. got my koi from River Road in Manorville. Quite a place!
Had it put in last August and my 3-4" fish are now 8-10". wow...did they grow.
Had the pond drained in late April to be cleaned. The fish survived the ordeal okay.
Then two weeks later, my oak trees started to spew their pollen and the water turned brown.Unsure
Doing major (40%) water changes weekly but its still rather murky. I hope I can get this managed because its disheartening to see it this way.
But I'm in love with my pond!

Ex Northern NYer here. I'm now in New Castle DE with a 4000 gallon pond and some large Koi, and Goldfish too.... about a total 30 or more fish. I've got 3 very large Koi and several females of both species. Hunrgy buggers went on a feeding frenzy during the breeding season this past spring.

Here's our pond this past winter. Hole in ice was kept open by bubbles from air pump.

Here's the big female Koi and 2 others that are almost her size. 22"s at least for her and 18 to 20"s for the other 2.
