Hi this is my first time online, I am moving from L.A. to Santa Fe New Mexico in about 30 days. I have 12 koi that i have had for about 6 years. They range about 12 inches to 18 inches. Whats the best way to ship them my self?

Hi, not a biggie, I have saltwater tanks, and had to move them about a year ago, and they are a LOT more senstative than pond fish, so I would just bag 'em up individually and fill with air from an air pump, and leave as little water as possible in the bag, because its the air that't the most important. Then pack the fish in tubs that won't move around a lot, and,Then depending on where this guy lives if it's cold, then put a couple of ice packs in around the fish, or if warm, then keep the car warm. So, that's my suggestion, and he should be fine, but that's just what I'd do, pondgirl

I've never had to transport that distance before myself, but I've been told by a local dealer that they do well in a well sealed ice chest for up to 2 days. He transports very expensive ($10k-$20k) fish from Japan to Oklahoma that way. I would check with a local dealer of high quality imported koi to confirm the details though. Good luck and happy moving!

you may want to keep a seperate ice chest filled with ice and some Dry ice and a damp rag.

this is for hot temps. and quick cooling of the koi.
