rust colored water Can't Post
Just added salt to pond for the first time since having pond sucessfully for ten years. Within one hour water turned into a rust color. The only metal present is an old water pump used to deliver water back into pond. will it be harmfull to the fish? It looks like the color is now actally "sinking" into bottom.

maybe salt water corrodes metal faster

but, id say yes, rust must harm the fish

Rust is not good at all for the fish, The rust that is now sinking might be mistaken for a flake sinker and the koi might eat a piece you have to watch out.

oh yes salt in water does corrode metal alot quicker than no salt. thats why cars are a Little less exspensive. like in san franisco, the have ferrari dealerships, and bentley dealer ships. but the are a few thousand dollars cheaper, due to salt in the air.

i definatly think that rust in the water will harm the fish if it didnt people wouldnt mind if the water was rust coloured

well do you have any metal in your pond, except for stainless steel.

I don't think he has actual rust in his pond. He said the water turned a 'rust colour'
Was your pond water green before? Salt will kill off any plants/weeds/algae especially if you've put in too much. If you haven't already get a salt test kit and check you haven't over done it.
