Koi indoors Can't Post
Can anyone offer advice on bringing Koi inside during the winter. I live in the Northeast USA and sometimes the winters get pretty cold here.
Also - can Koi surive and thrive in an indoor tank (125 gallons)?

Yes it could but you just need to oxygenize and filterize.

just bring the aquarium insidem if you leave the aquarium outside, i will crack, and freeze fully over

yes, Koi can survive, 125 gallons? It depends on# of fish and size. I raised fish in 55 gallons before.

yes but he lives in the north east america, in like the maine and new york area, over there ponds can freeze over, and so can aquarium.

yes, but he did mention the 125 gallon tank being indoors. That's why I offered advice about the indoor 55 gallon tank I had. By the way, let me know how your new ogon turns out.Blush

I live in Indiana (midwest usa to those who don't know where this is) and we have always left our fish in the pond over winter. In fact we just went on a pond tour to about 20 different ponds and all of the pond owners winter their fish over in the pond. It must be at least 36" deep and waterfall on and a small floating heater to keep a hole in the ice. I am looking to buy a very large aquarium and bringing my Koi in. I feel sorry for them and I am always worrying about them so I thought it would be good to bring them in. I must say that last spring when the pond thawed all my Koi were alive and the Sarasa Comets all lived too. They are more hardy than Koi I believe. I just had about 6 Koi and they were all less than 6".

I too have my Koi inside. They seem to be doing okay so far. Much better too, now that I have introduced a bubble wand in the 65 gallon tank (along with my #404 out of the tank filter system). They seem much more active now and eating like crazy. yes I am watching and being sure not to feed too much. They are 3 to 4" right now, and Ihope to have them in a pond by next season here in Toronto Ontario.

I love this board..... it's so full of information!

well I have just moved my 6 koi's inside about 3 days or so ago! was in a formed pond and since its only 3 ft deep I was a bit leary leaving them there as they are only 4 inch long ! welll in the spring I will be giving them a new pond ! 6 ft by 20 ft and 4 ft deep so for this winter ....its good filter lots of airstones and dayly waterchanges ! but they are doing good and will see how things progress ! Wink

Are these fish relatively new? I would not recommend you to move them around too much if the water is not too cold. They could get used to it. It only make them stronger, no harm if you keep them outside. By the way what is the temperature of your water outside?
